April Art Challenge - Klaus

Klaus

Vice Admiral
Admiral
A little earlier start than lately... :D

The idea is an episode entitled "Fuzzy Logic", where the Enterprise crew tries to deal with an ecological catastrophe caused by the release of a swiftly-breeding creature called "fuzzies" on a pristine planet, by a well-meaning elderly itinerant trader named Cyrano Jones. Kirk also has to deal with the arrival of a Klingon ship whose captain believes this is a test of new Federation bio-weapon...

The old object I'm doing is Cyrano's ship. :D

Here's the progress so far... made from some of Axeman's parts and a few bits I made as well.

And would this elderly Jones be played by the venerable Boris Karloff? ;)

(David Gerrold considered a few different ideas for Cyrano and as Klaus described above, Gerrold briefly thought of an old man who honsetly had no idea his "fuzzies" could be so destructive through their insanely large numbers. He then imagined the part going to Karloff. He was still alive at the time and working, so in theory, it was possible.

BTW, clever use and texturing of AxeMan's props!

Sincerely,

Bill

Ty! There are also a couple of Dystopia/Greeble city blocks panels.

I'll be doing my best to find a Karloff pic I can use for this, yes. I figured someone would get the source soon... :D

...and contrary to popular belief, I can do non-shiny.

OK added some more greebles and stuff... I want to make some real landing gear and I think it'll be about done.

OK here's some significant changes... found a better texture to modify, and added more greebling, swapped out the tanks in the back for a regular hull shape, and added a four-pod configuration of atmospheric engines. [The impulse drive is now at the back of the nacelles.] Also a deflector dish on the front, and the landing struts have hinges. :D

ty! I'm pretty happy with it now. :D

Here's a go at an in-episode shot, when an Enterprise redshirt finds the ship in the shabbier part of a remote spaceport...

I love the design, but I feel the texturing could use a little more work. It's very uniform right now, and the rust almost has a pattern to it. Perhaps use some different textures here and there, because it now looks as if you used the same image file for every different part of the mesh.

OK I did little rescaling on some of the textures to give a more-varied appearance, and here's what I think is the final version...

hmmm... I wondered if they looked strong enough lol.

I figured that a rugged little design like this would need tough landing gear because of the need to land in a variety of sketchy locations...

yeah, don't underestimate the structural load of a whole bay full of smuggled diselene crystal generators.

...and the doubletalk generators, to use a Gerrold reference. They're really heavy.
