Apple iSlate is upon us?

a keyboard dock, that's interesting...

I could see a lot of people using this as their "computer" with that keyboard doc installed, for a lot of light computer users, this may be all they need to be honest, surfing the internet, doing email, writing documents, storing digital photos and music, and of course being very portable. I could see this replacing the traditional computer for some people, cause really its all the feature set they need.

So there will be 3G models - 250MB of data a month for $14.99 and an unlimited plan for just $29.99 a month, all unlocked, no contracts

Can you get the slate without any kind of 'cellular' service (or 3G or whatever the hell it's called)? I would only ever use this thing with WiFi.

Yes, the WIFI only (which supports WIFI N btw) 16GB version (which is the cheapest model) is $499

It could also replace a lot of small TV's. One of these in a kitchen, you've got a TV and a netbook like computer all in one...

I still think if they really want to kill the Netbook they need to get that price down another $100 to $200. You can get Netbooks for $199-$299 now. I guess in time the price will come down, as it usually does with Apple products when they announce a price cut.

To those wondering why it's so expensive... it's an Apple. You pay for the brand name. This is the company that charges $89 for headphones at their store.

And those netbooks do infinitely more than the iPad will... at a quarter the price.

But.... It's an iPad... There is a reason that the Apple name carries a price.:techman:

You got sucked in.

Almost; if I could afford it, I would get one now, but I have a few more things I want to get taken care of before I get one.

But you already plan to get one. It's just a question of time at this point. They hooked you.

Jobs is a master.

Well, that's because it does fill a 'need' for me since I don't have a smartphone and would be nice to be able to take to work to do some reports on and work on the Metro.

The price points are definitely a good thing. I'm very impressed they managed to get it out at prices that don't scream "rape me in the ass" like most new products (certainly not limited to Apple either).

The fact that the device follows the iPhone model of being a closed development system and can't multitask are major failings. I'm not sure why they chose to emulate the iPhone and not the Mac in both of these cases.

I'm sold! :D I'm not really a Mac guy, but I am a gadget guy, I want one of these things to play with. Maybe its the geek in me, but it is appealing. I would want the one with the 3G support so I can use the Internet anywhere I go with it, the 3G data plan is really not that expensive, heck, I could take the $30 data plan off my Blackberry if I got this thing, and actually end up saving me money!

And now you see some of the Jobs thinking... and how he sold the plans to at&t. THink of how many people on blackberry's and other "smart phones" other than the iPhone, who look to jump onto this thing as a "data replacement" option. AT&T looks to snag big numbers off of this.

If comic book publishers release their new releases digitally on this format, this device will pay for itself in two years for me.

Hmmmm......

Steve Jobs is on the board of directors of Disney.... Disney just bought Marvel...

If they released comics for 99c each, I would buy so many more weekly comics. $4 per issue has really slowed my habits.

What about $2 each digital? I think that would more likely be the final price point at start for most titles...

Though the idea of digital only comics going for 99c is an interesting one, it could add a whole new dimension to the comic industry.
