I want Star Trek XI to be set in the continuity of "Homeboys from Outer Space," and I demand that it slavishly adhere to HFOS canon.

I demand it!

Scotty!!

I don’t mind change. But I also like honesty.

Why doesn’t J.J. or Paramount just come out and say this is a remake? There is nothing wrong with that. I’ve wanted a remake for a while. But they’re trying to have their cake and eat it too. Why? Batman Begins and Casino Royal had the balls to do this. To start over and admit that they were. That everything before, while great, didn’t count anymore and could be changed or slightly altered. Why not Star Trek? Why design new sets, title the film simply “Star Trek”, and then pander to the old fans at the same time with promises that this still part of the old canon? The old canon is a wondeful universe that has a long rich history. But it’s also dead weight that restricts creative freedom. I say start over new and not be ashamed of it by claiming otherwise, which is exactly what it sounds like they’re doing.

It's so simple... they hope to bring new people on board, but at the same time they know where their bread's buttered. They need us to show up in droves, multiple times. Hence the "Nimoy-as-Spock bridge." Regardless what they end up changing about Trek, we have to have something to touch back on and to connect it, however tenuously, to what has gone before.

Really? You could have fooled me. The Stargate fans seem to have a bigger fan base than Star Trek. You'd think Enterprise and Nemesis would have done wonderfully if the fan base was strong, even despite the criticism. I know a crap load of Star Wars fans that hated the prequel trilogy.

Also, I strongly doubt the fans wouldn't go watch a remake of Star Trek, even if it didn't pander to the old fans. They might say that they wouldn't. But come on. They'll go see it just to add validity to their criticisms or to get their Trek fix, hoping against hope that it won't suck.

I agree. Hardcore fans, stop whining "REBOOT REBOOT REBOOT  :scream: :( :censored: :brickwall: "

because Star Trek Xi is not a reboot. It is not exactly like it was in 1966.

But you will still go see Cloverfield, and watch the trailer. Then you will run home, and log onto this very website, and whine.

Then you will wait a year, and go to the theater, and watch the movie. Then you will run home, and log onto this very website, and whine.

The movie is being made. It cannot be stopped.

... you know, I don't particularly detect it's the 'hardcore' fans who cry 'reboot', but the trekker crowd. Just guessing.

If this movie is even remotely related to, much less based upon, Star Trek, I'll... I'll... I don't know what I'll do then!
