Anyones WANT this movie to be BASED on Star Trek

Borg451

Captain
Hi. I like the idea of a new movie.
But I don't want it to be hard and fast to the established trek history time lines.

The reason being; annoying nerd rants about canon.

I agree that canon helps to make the trek world more interesting and textured.

But in Trek it's come to the point where people don't discuss the episodes, just the tech and historical inconsistencies.

So, I hope that the movie isn't too cannon. I hope there are Andorians, Klingons, and that there is a face to face meeting with the Romulans. I hope that Chekov is there, I hope the Enterprise is newly built, and Kirk is its first captain.

So it can be about the story and nerd rants will stop.

No more nerd rants means a future for more Star Trek, and thats what we all seem to want. :)

I wished they had thrown canon out the window. 42 years of baggage dragging the thing down. Would have been a perfect time to cut loose.

But they haven't, and I'm okay with that too.

Isn't it already "based on Star Trek created by Gene Roddenberry" like all the movies have been?

It will have to be. Though really the last 4 should have been 'Based On Star Trek The Next Generation created by Gene Roddenberry'

What it needs is a title. I mean they can't call a sequel Star Trek 2.

i would but i dont have it.. do you have a download of it?

^ Lmao.

No true Star Trek fan would say that they dont mind if it isnt canon. Might as well make ripley from aliens captain, and blow up Romulus but constantly shouting 'GET AWAY FROM HER YOU BITCHHHH' n have The Doctor from Voy saying will you calm down... Would you like an analgesic cream. Man Canon Matters!!

You know, you must be a political pollster.

I get called by pollsters every so often. I get asked a question or two, and inevitably end up saying "I can't accept either of the answers you're giving me to choose from, because the question itself is biased as are the answers... any answer I give will provide fodder to those who'd like to portray my opinion as other than it is.

Your "poll" basically SUCKS. I'll give you a similar question... originally (as far as I know) asked by Groucho Marx. Remember, this is a YES or NO question... no other answer is acceptable or will be accepted.

Your spelling and grammar errors are very painful for some other readers. :brickwall: You could install the Google Toolbar, on your browser, and use the built in spell-check feature to clean up some of the errors. It is free to install and doing that would be a kind gesture.

If they renamed the ship and all the characters this would be fine.

I want Star Trek XI to be set in the continuity of "Homeboys from Outer Space," and I demand that it slavishly adhere to HFOS canon.

I demand it!

Borg451 I edited your post so it makes sense. You're welcome.
However, I won't do that again. If you start another post like that it'll be shut as spam and you can try again. Thanks. :)

Borg451 said:whats do you want it to say then?
Your question, as originally stated, was: (edited for proper grammar)
Who among you want this to be a reboot (or non-canon) movie, so that the story can be enjoyed?
That says that if it's non-canon, it can be enjoyed, but if it's not, it won't be enjoyed. Essentially, the question says "I think that they need to reboot for the movie to be enjoyable. So, if you want a reboot (which will be enjoyable) say "yes." If don't want a reboot, and want a movie that will NOT be enjoyable, say "no."

That's what you post really says. If that's not what you MEANT to say, then it's a grammatical issue and that's OK... but you need to clarify. If that IS what you meant to say... then yes, it's a terribly leading question, intended to get the result you really want, not to find out what people really think.

Make sense?

And you're certain that a canon movie is automatically going to be unenjoyable because...?

I don't mind of the movie deviates from the canon some, but IMO it should at least stay close enough that Trekkies will except it.

As for Kirk being the first Captain, we already know that won't be the case since
Bruce Greenwood has already been cast as Pike.

And we all know that Robert April was the first Enterprise captain. At least in the original canon ;)
