Anyone watching Valentine?

It's actually kind of cute. :) Here's the description from the show's website:

Have you found your soul mate? Because, let's face it, these days it's not that easy. In a world where online dating shows millions of possibilities, they could walk right past you and you'd never know it. But thankfully, help is on the way. The gods of love are on the case. Turns out the Greek gods of myth and fable are alive and well... and living among us in Mount Olympus, just off Hollywood's Laurel Canyon. From Executive Producer Kevin Murphy ("Desperate Housewives," "Reaper," "Ed") comes Valentine, a story about what a rare, strange, and often hilarious thing love is -- a gift that brings out the divine in all of us.

Meet the Valentines, a family of Greek gods who've been watching over us throughout the years from their mansion high up in the Hollywood hills. Grace Valentine (a.k.a. 'Aphrodite') is the matron of the family... but don't let that fool you. She's as sexy and seductive as she ever was. Grace believes in the power of love, and strives make others believe, too -- a tall order in such cynical times. Her son, Danny Valentine (a.k.a. 'Eros') is a little more pragmatic. As the god of erotic love, he's traded in his bow and arrow for a magical gun that makes people temporarily fall in love. You see, Danny's all about the heat of the moment -- sex, passion, passing infatuation. He's cocky, a bit of a scoundrel, but his heart's in the right place. Helping him out is Leo (a.k.a. Hercules), the muscle of the family. Despite Leo's physical strength, he's not afraid to show his sensitive side. Leo's totally dedicated to the job, and acts as Danny's moral compass. Rounding out the team is Phoebe, the family seer. Though Phoebe appears to be an innocent young woman -- charming, funny, if a little odd -- she's really much older than the other gods. Phoebe runs the Oracle (of Delphi), a mysterious pool deep inside the mansion.

With Phoebe's guidance, the Oracle shows who a person's true soul mate is. It also shows the disastrous path that person's life will take if the gods fail to make a love connection. But locating the couple in question is the easy part. Actually getting them together requires a little more creativity. Our heroes, the gods, have to infiltrate the lives of potential lovers while keeping their own identities a secret -- and they never know what role they'll be asked to play. They can be plumbers one day, movie producers the next. It all depends on the whims of Fate. That's the way it's worked for hundreds of years...

... Unfortunately, times are changing. People are growing more jaded. The more they rely on instant messaging and speed dating, the less they believe in true love. And because of this, the gods' powers are weakening. In fact, it's gotten so bad that Grace has decided to take drastic action. She's enlisted the help of a mortal woman to aid in their work -- a woman named Kate Frost. Kate's a romance novelist, and though she hasn't had much luck in her own relationships, she believes in love with all her heart. Kate's idealistic and uncommonly resourceful. She balances out Danny's more impetuous side, despite being a constant source of irritation to him. But even Danny can't deny that Kate's special combination of blind faith and unusual insight gives the family new perspective on love.

And the gods need all the help they can get. If you think your family is complicated, imagine being stuck with the same band of misfits for thousands of years! They may think they're above the petty squabbles of men and women, but they're worse than any of us. With all the rivalries, affairs, and schemes, it's a wonder that any work gets done. And just wait until their relatives start showing up!

So that's how it goes. There are gods among us, masquerading as airline pilots, certified accountants, circus clowns... you never know what they'll come as next. But one thing's for certain: when they do, they won't give up until love conquers all.
With all the complex conspiracies and deep dark plots floating around TV these days, I think it's kind of nice to have a fluff show. So far it's endearing and doesn't seem to take itself seriously.

Opinions?

Awww. *pouts* Well, I will say that it's not so compelling that I'm devastated or anything. Still, too bad. I wonder how many episodes were produced? There's at least one more airing this weekend - which makes three.

It was bad. No, I mean it was bad. I tried, but couldn't make it past the first ep.

Oh it was bad.

I thought the girl who played Kate was pretty enough even if she was a child star from Step by Step, but definitely not a Nottie although annoying and far too pretty in almost exactly the same way as prophet girl (they could play sisters, or in the right lighting twins.) who used to give me such a boner during her days on the OC, I hated the name changes and the guy playing "Leo" did not look a thing like Kevin Sorbo and Aries most definitely did not look a touch like Kevin Smith (No, the other Kevin Smith.).

Remember Cupid? now that was a show I liked about Greek Gods spreading the love and had almost the same premise, except you'know, with balls.

Although I must say I did like the dark plot prophet girl had a vision about where Kate is alleged to either be a sleeper agent, a god from another pantheon or even Hera herself playing silly buggers... Which would mean that she was making out with her son in the last episode?

Hiatus for script catching up might be code for cancellation, but it isn't exactly cancellation, because I wouldn't mind it if they were given 6 episodes to go totally mental with about dark conspiracies and god wars and the such.

Hmm, it's kinda okay, I keep watching to see what happens. Aphrodite getting killed in the seer's vision, apparently by the mortal gives it an interesting twist.

Well, Aries did say there was a something out there on a warfooting against the Greek Gods.

Reminds me of G'Kar screaming about Shadows during those weeks leading up to the Great War.

Personally, I think it would be awesome if it was the scientologists who were trying to take over.

Although... Has you dealer ever refused to sell you horse when you know perfectly well that she has plenty bolted down in that cavity under that loose flap of wallpaper?

kate is still riding high from that orgasm handshake Grace gave her... What happens when she starts to go cold turkey? Actually, I'm not quite sure why she didn't insist she get a bit of that loving touch when she was negotiating her contract.

What would be awesome would have been the 12 tasks of Kate as she struggled to do a dozen impossible things to be awarded demigoddesshood in her own right.

If Kate isn't the big bad, that is.

Wolf in sheeps clothing.

Well don't like it too much, it's been cancelled.
THR.com is reporting that production on the MRC produced Valentine and Easy Money, telecast on CW’s Sunday night, has been shut down

Sounds like a good premise but I forgot to watch it. I guess I was far from alone.

I've watched both episodes so far. It's cheesy fun. I basically watched it because the ever so hot Autumn Reeser is in it.

I've briefly viewed this show, while channel surfing....Is Jaimie Murray who played Lilah on Dexter, a regular on this show?

One would have thought she had the top billing, since she is playing Aphroditie goddess of love and matriarch of the family in question but it's the little human...

So unless she's dumped for because of network notes and replaced for no reason, she has a very important role in the show.

Maybe they are planning on telling a very different story altogether since the mortal "Kate" has top billing?

Um? They change the tittle of the show every 6 episodes or so as she adapts a new "cover" to infiltrate and demolish a different pantheon?

This show is quite reminding of all the interesting things that used to be happening in the background on charmed that would eventually fade away to concentrate on the sisters ability to rhyme and dress slutty.

The short-lived 1998 series "Cupid" did a better job with essentially the same concept. Curiously, ABC is bringing "Cupid" back next year, though with an entirely new cast. Sorry, but Jeremy Piven is what made the original as good as it was, and I just don't see it working w/o him. (IIRC, Cupid had good ratings, but was a wierd package deal which included the cool but intensely unpopular remake of "Fantasy Island" w/ Malcolm McDowell as Mr Roarke. The network had to either keep both shows, or cancel both shows. FI sucked so bad in the ratings that the network had no choice but to ax it.)

Cupid was beyond awesome because Jeremy piven is awesome. I want to party with Jeremy Piven. Wizard Magazine cast him as loki in a Hypothetical Avengers movie a while back... And stop me if you've heard this before, but Paula Marshall is Gorgeous and yes I have seen her starkers on Californication and I have no idea what she is doing degrading herself on Gary Unmarried!? So much talent has gone to Garry Unmarried to die, although, after the Ghost Whisperer if we must be honest there's not much fuirther tot he bottom.

Okay, so after seeing the third episode, eith Kate is EVIL or they want us to think there is smoke where there is fire when there clearly isn't or they're going for a oduble fake out since the show is teetering on cancelation, they can do almost anything!

The Lion of Olympus (Leo) drinking was sooooooo funny.

you can barely tell that Holy Vallance is Australian anymore. :)

i hope this survives at least a season though it's probably like wishing tng would get back on air. >_<

i do like it for what it is. it's a fun little show that's cute.

TNG did get back on the air, but it was called Gargoyles.

Gargoyles taught me that Frakes was only pretending to be a deush on TNG.

I was gonna watch because I like Autumn Reeser, but then I saw the ratings and I knew it wasn't gonna last a month.

I'm really liking the sweetness of this show. I think it's doing a good job of injecting the modern search for love with classic romance and charm. I hope they don't go too deep into the subplot "Kate is evil and the gods are approaching mortality" thing. It's mildly interesting, but I think I'd really prefer this show to remain more episodic in nature. The scoring is also quite lovely - the end title music has an 80s television feel to it that hearkens back to that more innocent era in entertainment. I like it.

The one false note for me here is the actress who plays Grace. Her accent strikes me as completely out of place and overdone. I don't know anything about the actress - is that her real speaking voice? Anyway, her portrayal of Grace pushes my limit of toleration from time to time.

But overall, the show's charm is pulling me in. Which basically means I'm on another cancellation deathwatch. :(

Her accent is real. On Hustle (Weekly English show about grifters) she was able to employ a variety of accents... but lets face any god pf love worth their salt is midway theough a 4 hundred year long orgasm. She played a more batshit role on Dexter last year.

Hiatus. Don't break the code dude.

The writers APPARENTLY needed mre time to catch up on their writing because after one episode they were seriously falling behind time on their time table... We are LED to believe.

But they'll play out what thye have in the can so far before we notice the Hiatus.
