Anyone still watch Star Trek movies on VHS?

Has everyone migrated to DVD and Bluray by now? Just wondering, I still only have some Trek movies on VHS, I haven't got them all on the better formats yet. I'm watching The Wrath of Khan at the moment, and this film is great no matter how old it gets!

This is a bit off-subject, but I was watching one of the old Airplane movies the other day and noticed that Shatner was in it and they had him looking at the Enterprise through sometype of thing they use to see what's outside (sorry, my vocabulary isn't the best tonight :) )

I think Kristy Alley was the better Saavik, too bad she didn't stay in for Star Trek III.

No. I have all the movies on DVD.

That thing Shatner was looking through was a periscope.

Yes. Kirstey Alley was an awesome Saavik,

Up until 6 months ago, I still had Star Trek V on VHS. Now? All movies on DVD and Blu-ray.

I have TWOK, TMP, and Generations on VHS. The only DVD's I have are First Contact and TOS. But then again I am poor. I still have a lot of VHS tapes. You'd be surprised how many good movies you can get at your local thrift store for just a couple of bucks.

I suppose you could say I have TFF on VHS, since it's the only one I haven't picked up on DVD.

I don't usually watch them on VHS, but if I can't find any of my copies, then I'll pop in the VHS version.

I mainly keep all of them for collection purposes. I have almost every US version of every movie on VHS, I think I am only missing the black and gold copies of TMP and SFS. I have every other one, I believe.

I don't own the movies on Blu-Ray because I don't have a BR player. However, I have seen II-IV in HD on netflix.

I actually just bought Wrath of Khan yesterday on DVD for my first non-VHS copy of a Star Trek movie.

Did you buy the bare bones or the Director's Edition?

Director's Edition. My local DVD store kept getting Wrath of Khan DE in, but I kept setting it down and then regretting not buying it. Of course, the DVD would be gone by the time I came to my senses. Fortunately, I had another opportunity and took it.

The nebula at the end? You can't even notice the swirls and shapes in my old, over-watched VHS copy. It's amazing to see this DVD.

I was watching the Motion Picture on VHS exclusively up till last year. I strongly dislike the Director's Cut and I by far prefer the theatrical version.

Last year I transferred that videotape to DVD-R. Job done, don't need the video anymore...

Hell no, VHS=crap. I had a Super BETA Max anyway.

Its not just the poor video quality, most of these films were pan and scan.

I still watch the old Special Extended Edition of TMP from time to time... the tape is starting to show it's age, though.

I still have a few Trek VHS tapes, but since I've replaced the films with DVD, the only VHS ones that still get watched are the Trek specials/tributes.

My 10-year-old son has a VHS player in his room, and he uses it to watch old Disney, Warner Bros., and Ewoks 'toons that have not yet been released on DVD. And the old "Making of Star Wars" tapes.

Hell no. Even dvd seems archaic to me now that I've experienced these movies on blu-ray. Blu is is the only way to go for me.

I’d be very cautious of the original motion picture DVD/bluray.

Shame on you Paramount Pictures L.A!

What they have done is create a fake Dolby stereo True 5.1 doesn’t matter which!

What they’ve done is taken the front discrete left and right and folded it onto the monaural surround as Star Trek the motion picture was never interned or produced or mixed with the intention of stereo surrounds for the 70mm release.

If you listen carefully you can hear left and right front crosstalk into the so called stereo fake surrounds! Its like Dolby Pro-Logic II movie mode its shameless and it shouldn’t have been re-mixed!

What they should have done is tracked down rare soundtrack elements that was produced for the original theatrical 1979 release. Please don’t kidd yourselves with it, its not the original sound mix!

It has echo reverberation when Scotty voice is heard on the bridge panned to the right. The pan is correct but the echo is incorrect. Also the voice filters onto the surrounds and that is incorrect!

Also discrete means discrete and the surrounds are fully active all the time and that is incorrect! So much for the so called prefect format called bluray and this, isn’t even the first time that classic Dolby stereo discrete films have been tapered with fake stereo surrounds when in fact! They should be monaural surround.

Only a small handful of 70mm Dolby stereo, films was ever produced with stereo or split-surrounds since (1978) till the day of its retirement. Most where mono surrounds or (Dolby format 42) (Dolby format 41) was wide that is five screen front channels and one mono surround. (Dolby format 43) was LCR and stereo surrounds and one sub bass track channel.

Also the left and right or centre phantom is folded onto the discrete centre to some small degree.

Its still kinder discrete but not true discrete. I bet if you played the rare 70mm print against the bluray that 70mm print will laugh at bluray, telling it to climb back inside its pram and shut the $%ik up!

bluray is giving classic films a bad name! SIGH double dipping no, just sheer money wasting and greed on Paramount’s half.

The rest well sigh seem okay well almost!

So I tend to play the laserdisc of Star Trek the motion picture (1979) that copied to DVD-RW to make it easier for playing and chapter search.

Also there is missing sound effect when Sulu presses a button on the helm control (left front it’s a high frequency sound (click sound) just after Kirk gives him orders to drop 500 meters. So listen! It takes a golden to notice and its an easy sound effect!

Yeah nice job Paramount you idiots!:angryrazz::brickwall::wah:
