Anyone still play Star Trek CCG (1E)?

So, I know there's been a second edition to the Star Trek customizable card game, but, does anyone still actively play the first edition?

Anyone put together games -- just for fun -- and play solitaire? (aka, use chance and randomly seeded cards to recreate parts of the Dominion War, campaigns against the Borg, missions of the USS Enterprise, etc)?

Hello JonBaas,

It's an amazing game but you need fiercely loyal Trek nerds, people with heaps of spare time, $$$ to play, etc.

I end up playing a solitaire version a few times each year. I made a thread about this ages ago, in it I list my suggested rules for enjoying Trek CCG solitaire:

Will not be playing online. I play cards for the reason that I don't want to sit in front of screens. Also, I can't stand the mechanics of Second edition. As a result of this, I ended up playing casual MTG from time to time. But I miss playing 2-3 player epic games of TNG:CCG with my pals back in the 1990s, when Trek had 3 series' going and it was everywhere.

A vastly underrated game, both in visual design and game mechanics. Although I will admit, it's tricky to learn for newcomers (although no where near the level of convolution and frustration MTG sometimes invokes!)

I still have my CCG collection (which I plan to complete one day), but I've never really played it.

I still have all my rares, ultra-rares and Fajo. Had to get rid of the commons and uncommons after I got married and had a lot less space. Only ever got to play it a few times, as nobody in my area seemed to like it. Brings back fond memories, though.

If anyone wants to buy cards, you can PM me, as I have a buttload of rares just sitting unused in my binder.

I can do PMs now. Tried to register for the continuing committee, but I seriously cannot read their captcha codes.

You can still pick these up for really cheap off a few websites and if you're lucky some local hobby shops. I'm still collecting and ALMOST got to play at last year's Gen Con.

It really wasn't a good enough game to warrant a huge fan base. I enjoy it because it's Trek and it was goofy fun for Trek fans but as a game it was really lacking in a lot of areas.

It was my favorite CCG, theme-wise, as it was my first and it was Trek. For balance, theme and content the original Star Wars CCG was the best and most fun CCG of all time.

I'd still have to say Magic was the best all around. It was the first and it's still going strong and it's still fun and easy enough to just pick up and play once in a while.

I used to own a Star Wars CCG collection too at one point. But I lost interest in that one because there wasn't any challenge to it (aka, no game goals such as missions, facing dilemmas, etc -- just "destroy the other side and you win"). ST:CCG, on the other hand, actually works well as a single-player game -- if you have the patience and creativity.

For me, those two things aren't a problem. As a result, I greatly enjoy setting up a game every now and then. Just me and my cards. An actual live opponent would be wonderful, but, those seem to be a premium in the casual gaming category.

JRoss...I can't PM just yet...what do you have for sale?

Anybody have an extra All Good Things set floating around? I missed it back in 2003, and can only find the 41 cards on ebay ($200) or a sealed set ($400)...yeah right. I'm not necessarily looking for a sealed set, as I have plenty of Reflections foils and the Jupiter card, and plenty of plain white card boxes.

Thanks!

I guess I'll post my thoughts on 1E in addition to finding a way to fill the holes in my set.

I played Magic, Star Wars CCG, and 1E when they all came out. Magic lasted about a year, and Star Wars about 2.5. I STILL have my entire collection of 1E from Premier to TMP, although I never bought TwT, MM, ROA, HA, or All Good Things (most of those can be found for cheap online).

I felt this was the best game for balance and you could field a good deck without having to spend a whole lot of money. Other than card randomization in Premier there wasn't too many faults.

Even as of a few years ago my friends and I would get together once or twice a year to get a couple of games in, although recently it has been difficult to find players. I even got my wife involved. While she isn't a big Trek fan, it is something we can do other than just sitting on our butts watching TV, especially if the weather is poop. It's a much better 2 player game than Monopoly or Risk (we both love, but hard to find other people who like to just sit and have a game night with a few drinks).

Just my two cents.

Sorry, I just saw your posts, Load. I've got a lot (about 500 different rares, over 600 total). I only have 1E stuff, and I have from Premiere to the Motion Pictures and a Fajo collection. I don't have any commons or uncommons anymore. Also, Autographed Quark, Tom Paris (Maquis version) and Sulu.

JRoss, what is your home e-mail? I can e-mail you what I'm looking for as opposed to clogging up this feed. Mine is rich.stocker@gmail.com

Thanks!

I use to just collect the CCG cards. I never had anyone to play the game or help learn to how to play it. I still have my cards in their protective sleeves.

Played it back in the nineties. Also collected the 1E Premiere, Data Laughing, Warp Pack and Alternate Universe. Complete sets. Neatly organised in a binder.

If anyone's interested, I'll sell the complete sets as whole. I can also help you with missing uncommons and commons (Premier BB edition), as I have a ton of spares.

PM me if you're interested.

i have some cards got up to i think cards from the Motion Picture set for 1st ed. did not buy any cards for Second Ed. didn't like the layout of the cards even though you could still use them and first together same backing and all the info is still displayed on the cards... i did have alot of cards for game decks but when i moved from one coast to the other (was moving from VA back to my hometown of San Diego) i left a bunch of stuff to be shipped out at a later date and my stuff got ransacked...friends managed to salvage my folders with singles of every cards and my fajo set. but all my extras are gone. if anyone wants to help donate to a poor white boy i would be much obliged. i would really like to be able to set up game decks again i had enough to make pretty decent Fed, Rom, Kling and Borg decks...and only borg card i am missing right now is the Queen from The Borg set based off of Voyager. i want all borg have always enjoyed the borg. if any of you would like to help dealing with the cards you can either e-mail or IM me at ajwilson0@yahoo.com.
thanks even if you are not willing to give cards away, i completely understand...

as for ST:O, i wish i had the money to pay for the Lifetime subscription...i want to make a liberated borg character but like i said poor white boy in San Diego...
