Anyone remember The Invaders?

I'm watching Season 3 of The X-Files when in the season finale there is guest star Roy Thines whom I remember starring in the '60s series The Invaders. I know he was in the show and I have very dim recollections of it, fragments of a child's memory. I know it was about a man trying to uncover and reveal the presence of aliens on Earth, but that's all I recall.

Does anyone more clearly remember this series or more recently rewatched it (likely on DVD)? Did it only run for a few seasons? Was it any good?

Actually, it's one of the series in the DVD rotation of things my wife and I watch when there's nothing else on. We just recently started season 2 (it only ran for 2).

Yes, it's an excellent show. A creepy paranoid allegory for the 60s fear of Soviet spies, chock full of favorite 60s character actors. In color!

Funny you should ask. I found both seasons packaged together on DVD for a price I can afford and was thinking of getting them. I remember it as a sci-fi take on The Fugitive, which is no surprise since it was made by the same people, but I haven't seen it in decades, and even then in reruns. I wasn't even born until right after it finished it's run.

I loved Architect David Vincent as a kid. I got the dvds of season one for my birthday a couple of years back. I was so jazzed to see him in the X Files, what a great bit of casting. It was a shock to the system to see how he'd aged because in my memory he still looked 30 or whatever he was in The Invaders. I think the only thing I'd seen him in in between times was an episode of Buck Rogers.

I used to know the opening narration off by heart, but I'm not word perfect any more.

I love the title card - color TV was still a novelty, and the shows were playing it up for all it was worth. The Invaders title card is in magenta and cyan and all the garish raw colors that hurt your eyes.

Oh yeah, loved it, knocked it off in First Frontier, wished they'd given the show a proper ending...

Never watched the remake though.

^No, but IIRC Chris Carter listed The Invaders as one of the inspirations for the show along with Kolchak - which also led to a guest appearance from Darren McGavin.

Syfy ran a marathon of the first eleven episodes back in January, which is the first time I'd ever seen it, and I reviewed it on my blog:

My judgment: decent, but not great. The premise had a lot of holes in it, but it had its points of interest, including pretty good visual effects for the day.

I loved the show when it first aired, haven't seen it since, though...

I used to have the model of their ship too.

Is that the one with Scott Bakula? If so, you didn't miss much. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't all that good either.

I watched it on video, and I thought it was pretty good. The show didn't have a proper ending; it was just as David Vincent was getting people to believe him (and some backing from an organization) that the series ended.

The sequel series with Scott Bakula had promise, but didn't have any 'umph' to it. Roy Thinnes' David Vincent had a walk-on, but didn't have any words, IIRC....(I do recall his walk-on was the high point).

I still think they can do a sequel show or film with Thinnes(of course, with him 'mentoring' the younger hero, which I think was to be the case for the sequel series).

Only a few words. Thinnes appears out of nowhere, says something to the effect of, "My name is David Vincent. I've been fighting these aliens for many years. Here's all the information I've collected on them. Good luck." He then hands Scott Bakula a packet and disappears.

You've quoted incorrectly. I never said the above and I didn't even know there was a "new" Invaders.

And now you've done the same, Warped9. It happens if you miss the last [/QUOTE]. No big deal, I don't think.

I would like to see this series at some point, surely, though it's too bad the whole thing is unresolved at the end (or so I've been lead to believe).
