I echo about Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn trilogy...it's excellent. His first novel Elantris is a great read as well. He has also finished Robert Jordan's excellent Wheel of Time Series, writing the final three books.

Tad Williams Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn is excellent as well. One of my favourite series and something that surprised me when I first discovered.
