Anyone playing Avatar The Game?

I got a gift card to Gamestop and used it to buy this game today. It is pretty fun so far. I've been playing it for the last two hours and havent gotten bored with it yet.

Anybody else playing this game?

^^Bingo, a cheap movie tie-in that's jumped on the "gain XP" type gameplay but fails simply because the game so very mediocre.

I don't think i would even recommended it even for rental or the bargain basket.

I thought the same thing before I bought it, but it is quite fun. I havent seen the movie yet so I am intrigued as to where the story in the game is going. I decided to play the human path thinking I would have an advantage because I have lots of guns, but it actually is quite hard defeating the Na'vi and the various other enemies even with tons of firepower.

I like this game far better than Borderlands.

The problem with most movie tie-ins is that they're made in a very short amount of time in order to coincide with the movie. So you don't get a true Spider-Man experience -- you get a game that happens to have Spider-Man in it. X-Men Origins: Wolverine is an exception because they were already making a Wolverine game when they adapted it to tie in with the movie.

I thought this game has been in development for a long time, per Cameron's marching orders, in order to avoid such pitfalls?

But I haven't played it nor seen any gameplay footage yet.

I haven't played it, but it actually got some surprisingly good reviews. OXM gave it a 7.5. From their review:

Avatar brings way more to the table than you’d expect — primarily two gameplay paths (one RDA, one the indigenous Na’vi) with enough variety to make each eight- to 10- hour stint worthwhile. And when you throw in a metagame of planetary control that adds a surprising mini-strategy sub-questy element; upgradable weapons, armor, and skills; and killer visuals even in 2D, we were more impressed than we expected to be.

I completed it and I must say I loved it. Early on you get to pick which side you want to play on and I picked the RDA's side so I fought against the Na'vi most of the time. Kind of near the end you are given a choice again to help the Na'vi or continue to help the soldiers. I chose to help the na'vi just to see what it would be like to fight against the soldiers. Even though I chose the na'vi, I still stayed in my soldiers body and could operate all the equipment I found laying around.

There are a lot of "run and gun" levels in the game, but the story is intriging. I plan to start over tomorrow and play as the Navi the entire time and see how that story pans out. The graphics are also nice. Running through a canopy jungle makes you feel claustraphobic, but flying one of those helicopter gunships looks great also.

This game is worth the money.
