to be Dax, even before TF quit.

Watching Tears left my w/the image that she had. Bashir coming out of surgery and telling everyone the symbiont had been saved but nothing could be done for Jadzia, and that they needed to get Dax back to Trill ASAP.

as far as i know she got the symbiont by accident as they said in afterimage.

it was a last minute thing if i'm not mistaken. there should be an interview somewhere around here where she explains how she got the part. its been i while though...

EDIT: here it is, my friend. http://trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=109718

^Exactly.

In the DS9 Companion, it's stated that originally, Ira had intended Ezri to be a mysterious, "spooky" kind of character. Eventually, Rene Echevarria suggested that they go a whole 'nother direction with her--to make her more complex, by adding the element that she hadn't wanted to be joined, but she was forced to by circumstance.

Almost immediately, Ira did a complete revamp, making her a vulnerable, eccentric young lady.

Eventually, Hans Beimer remembered a certain young Canadian actress...and the rest is history. :)

I'd like to think that they didn't "plan" to waste a bunch of valuable season 7 time introducing a new annoying character when they could have spent more time wrapping up existing plot-lines.

I still think that it would have been vastly more interesting, certainly in terms of Worf, if the the new Dax had been a young man. Perhaps a young man who very obviously still had feelings for Worf. Sisko just would have rolled with it, Julian hard to say.

Oy, vey. We've had these discussions a MILLION times already. (See: Season 8 discusion thread)

Now...I wonder: what would it have been like had they gone through with Ira's original concept for Ezri?

Which actress would have best fit the "spooky & mysterious" idea?

I forget the exact year in the 1990's it was that Ezri appeared, but a very young Angelina Jolie.

Yeah--haven't we seen more than enough of Angelina?

(Not that she's a bad actress, but--hey....)

And I'd say she's too "Jadzia"-like.

I think if we had avoided Prodigal Daughter and rolled any backstory about her family into Joran's taunts in Field Of Fire, it would have tempered the Ezri hate on here.

It's kinda ironinc...becasue I kinda liked that ep. Or at least, I like what we learned about her past, there....
