Anyone hope Discover will last for 7 years like VOY, DS9, and TNG?

It depends on what they expect out of the show. I'd like it to go for at least three years. The last two-three years of TNG were garbage.

If it's good, I'm happy for it to go on ten years. Although if it is successful I suspect that we might see a spin off or new series before then.

I'd prefer it last however long it takes to tell whatever story they want to tell - plus *maybe* a small handful of "just fun" episodes. If that's six episodes or 30 seasons, as long as that is well done and it doesn't get to a point where it just feels like they're scrounging for something to do, I'm up for it.

I'm going to be honest here. Considering all the shows mentioned didn't really hit their strides until season 3. I think the modern convention of 4 or five season works out quite well. Hit the ground running with 12-15 good episodes a year for four or five years and I'll be happy as a clam

I'd perfer it run as long as they have an interesting story to tell. IMO TNG ran two seasons too long and sorry but for me, VOY ran 6 3/4 seasons too long. ;)

Five seasons feels pretty ideal for a tv show, but it depends on the episode count and the general trajectory of the story too I suppose. TOS and TNG weren't about anything in particular; they were shows about their own universes. That's why it was easier to produce a lot of episodes. But for all their greatness they were also limited by the same format that made them so suited to huge episode runs. Nothing in the world was allowed to change irreversibly. There was always a reset button towards the end if something massive happened in an episode so viewers would be able to tag along even if they had missed a few episodes, even a full season.

Discover is a different animal, a lot more character driven and purposeful in its storytelling by the sound of it. It has the look and feel of a golden age tv drama. If it goes on too long it'll just become irrelevant in the end. I hope they end it before that happens, and then uses the buzz they've generated to make something new. Maybe we could finally get that post-TNG era show in a couple of years.

I think shorter runs are better. I'd rather be left wanting more, than getting so tired of it I finally quit watching.
Yep. Walking Dead is a prime example. If it ended three seasons ago it'd be remembered as one of the best shows ever. Right now, it's really overstayed its welcome and become something of a self-parody, IMO.

I'd be happy with 7 seasons but I also want other shows too. Other time periods. Other stories told. Mini-series. TV movies. Streaming only movies. Whatever. Just Marvelize Star Trek already. Bring me back to Deep Space Nine.

If the series is good, then yes the more the better. If it is not, I won't particular care how long it will last.
