Anyone here seen Transformers in BluRay?

ReadyAndWilling

Fleet Captain
hey guys, i just got home and have been watching Tranformers and the quality of the animation just looks really terrible. almost like it was put together by 13year olds. obviously i'm talking about the movie from 1986, the only real TF movie ever made.

the DVD version was great, but this was one just sucks. it's almost like all of its flaws show under the microscope of high quality or something.

their review:
Transformers: The Movie (1986) (UK Import)

November 16, 2007

This print shows the film exactly as it was meant to be seen in theaters. For those that remember, and for those that do not, the film was animated in a 4x3 ratio, but was matted to 16x9 for the theatrical release. With the past 4x3 DVD releases, you actually see more image on screen, but the 16x9 print usually offers a better overall composition on screen as that was the original intent of the film.
The transfer from the film print is very crisp and clear.

I guess ReadyAndWilling you are just comparing a 1986 animated movie to a more modern restored remastered type of Blu-ray release and are being more critical.

The film has been released on Blu-ray Disc outside the United States, however those versions are region-free and will play in an American Blu-Ray machine.
Although the trailer hails the film as "spectacular widescreen action", the movie was animated in 4:3 "fullscreen" format. The feature was vertically cropped to widescreen dimensions for theatrical showings and released in fullscreen on home video and DVD. The 20th anniversary release of the movie by Sony, however features the cropped widescreen presentation.

The TV show's first season in 1984 was remastered twice for DVD:
Originally released on DVD by Rhino back in 2002, Transformers: Season One has been granted something of a technical upgrade
In addition to a series of visual corrections and a new audio mix
Shout Factory has created a new Dolby Digital 2.0 mix from the original audio source. This is a tastefully-done audio track and features none of the "new" effects found on Rhino's overcooked 5.1 Surround mix
Transformers: The Complete First Season (25th Anniversary Edition) Review

Note that this is the second time "The Transformers" has come to DVD. Rhino first released the series back in 2002 to a large amount of controversy. For their DVD mastering, they used 35mm footage as the source. This yielded a much smoother, crisper image than the 1-inch tape broadcasts, but there was a problem: the 35mm reels were incomplete work prints. This meant that animation glitches that were fixed by the time the episodes aired suddenly resurfaced. Various lines and scenes were missing, and to make matters worse, Rhino redid the soundtrack in Dolby Digital 5.1 using stock sound effects.
For this 25th Anniversary set of The Complete First Season, Shout! Factory has used those film masters as the starting point, re-inserting missing footage from broadcast tapes, color-correcting errors, and remastering the soundtrack using the original elements.

The Transformers: The Complete First Season DVD Review (25th Anniversary) review

You may wish to take a look at the two versions of remastering of the first season of the TV series.

This isn't a movie I'd bother upgrading to Blu-Ray. I love the animated movie and will not give into the adult part of my brain that tries to pick it apart now.

I take it your referring to the 1986 animated movie? As far as I'm aware it's not on BD and that there are no immediate plans for them to release it AFAIK (though I'd eagerly snap it up if it were). I have the 2006 20th Anniversary Edition which is a good release (certainly better than the 2000 Rhino release but I was eager for any re-release of that movie since I hadn't seen it for over a decade previous).

As for the 2007 version, I own THAT movie on BD, as well as the sequel and both movies look and sound great on BD.

^ The animated film was available on Blu-ray from the UK Amazon for a brief time. And I believe it was not region coded, either, so US players could have played it. Wish I'd bought it while I had the chance.
