Anyone here ever used Uber?

I am trying...trying...TRYING not to get miffed at the fact that Uber doesn't use the umlaut.

anyhoo, I have another question: If you are at, for example, an airport and you call for an Uber, how do you tell them where in the airport they should come get you?

I mean, depending on what airline you're on, whether your flight was international, how many terminals the airport has, and a lot of other things, you could be pretty much anywhere...so how does the driver know where to go?

At most airports, especially the big ones, the app has you choose your pickup point from a list. The downside is that if you aren't familiar with the airport, you may need to get out to the curb and get the lay of the land before you pick the answer. Most big airports these days are marked by terminal, pillars, islands, door numbers, etc. For example, my pickup point today at DEN was door 507, island 3. That was for an FBO shuttle, not an uber, but the same principle applies. The app will help, and if that fails, just get on the phone and talk to the driver, if you are lucky enough to score one that understands you.

I've never understood why Uber suddenly stopped offering drives to airports. I think a lot of them also stopped their shuttle services, so I don't know how the hell you're supposed to get to one of those airports if you don't want to have drive yourself and leave your car there until you get back.

I take UBER to the airport all over the country, all the time. Where are you talking about, specifically?

All I remember is a few months ago it was all over the news that they were no longer going to be letting people use Uber to get to some airports.

With Ontario Int'l Airport in particular, Uber stopped offering services there due to a dispute about the access fees that the airport was charging them.

Sorry for the bump (even though I started the thread ;) ) but I just thought of something:

When your ride is over and you get out of the car, do you have to do anything? Meaning, do you have to immediately fire up the Uber app and tell it the ride is over, or does it somehow already know?

I use Lyft and basically I don't need to do anything. When you get a chance you can go in and just tip the driver and then (At least for lyft) everything is calculated at the end of the day and you get a Day bill. I'm sure Uber is similar.

The uber app knows. Your card will be charged automatically and a receipt sent to the email address on file. If you want to tip the driver, it's better to open the app sooner rather than later and do it after the ride. (It automatically loads the rating and tip page) You'll get an updated receipt when you do, but if you wait too long the tip ends up going through as a separate charge. Not a big deal for some people, but if you are filling out an expense report for work it generates a separate expense that now has to be matched up with the original. You can also tip before the ride is over if you want, and then it all goes through as one charge.
