Anyone have a MobileMe account?

I'm just wondering what you think of the whole thing and whether it's worth the eventual cost? Can you sync all your files and folders from both your Mac and your Macbook without much effort?

It was a colossal waste of money for me. I never used the storage space, the web hosting was pointless, and syncing got on my nerves more often than not.

Even if Apple got a clue and charged a little bit a month instead of the large chunk of money at one time, it still wouldn't have been worth it to me.

That's what I figured. I've been looking into it, and it doesn't seem to do what I want. It syncs all the Apple software, but nothing else. I'd love to wirelessly sync basically what goes into my documents folder. It's a bit of the pain in the pass to be on my Macbook Pro all day taking notes in school, writing while waiting for another class and so and so forth, and then have to put it all on a thumb drive and transfer it over.

Anyone know how to wirelessly sync at least your documents folder?

Try Dropbox. It offers a couple gigs of cloud storage. It is a folder that sits inside the "my documents" folder. You drop a file in there and it automatically syncs the file to the dropbox folder on any other machine on the same account. There are apps for the iDevices as well so you can access those files on an iPhone or iPad if need be. It works with Windows, Mac and Linux machines. Best of all, its free.

I would recommend Dropbox as well. I use it for passing files between my PC Desktop, my MacBook and even my Android Phone. Works flawlessly, is free and even allows you to have public folders if you want.

I just got back from talking with a friend, and he recommended drop box, as well! Thanks guys! :)

There have been rumors about Apple making MobileMe free (or included with a Mac or iPhone) in the last few months, but nothing's come of them yet.

I also recommend Dropbox for what you need, though. I'm in a similar situation, and would use it myself, but I'm involved in two projects that collaborate via dropbox, and both feel they have a monopoly on my two free gigs of space, and it's a bit of a pain to increase my free allocation.

I really like my MobileMe account and use many of its features and even I use Dropbox instead of MM's iDisk!

That's how good Dropox is. I ignore the iDisk I pay for and use the free system instead. It really is better. Everyone should use it. (The fact that you can get it for Mac, Windows, Linux, iOS, Android and (soon) Blackberry doesn't hurt things either. It's a really fantastic system.)

Once you sign up, tell your friends. You get 250 MB of space for everyone you sign up. I'm up to 10 GB in my free account!

This is the exact setup that I'm using Dropbox with as well. It's been especially useful going back and forth between home and campus (plus Evernote on desktop PC for online lecture notes and on the MacBook for notes in class). So far, I'm loving Dropbox.
