If anyone went to Star Wars Celebration V, one would have noticed so many young children getting into Star Wars.. in most part due to Star Wars Clone Wars-animated series...and with that, a new generation of fans are there..

why can't CBS/Paramount come up with a new Star Trek Animated Series to get a whole younger generation of fans for Star Trek ?

just a thought...

Just an FYI, young children were into Star Wars long before the Clone Wars cartoon came along.

Only in a few episodes. Trek has never created a version targeted at younger viewers. The TOS purists would probably trash it anyway.
There is a whole new generation of young people watching TOS, many of them not interested in the later series.

Yes..I too am very worried about the youth of today and the viability of the Star Trek franchise. Very worried indeed.

No, I'm joking.

CBS (Paramount wouldn't be involved; they only do movies and Paramount and CBS hate each other) would only have three places to air it: on CBS; CW; or Showtime.

I can't see CBS or Showtime doing an animated show (aren't they all on Comedy Central, FX and Fox? and of course Cartoon Network) CW is possible but that's targetted at young women and I don't think they're as into animation.

Forget the kiddies, how about CBS doing a new Star Trek show for grownups? I'd love to watch Star Wars but I can't stomach Clone Wars (bad animation, kiddie-level writing), and suspect an animated Star Trek would be just as bad.

The Clone Wars, from what I've seen, is pretty much all violence, all the time, some of it quite gruesome for a "kid's show". If not having such a series makes Trek less hip with the little ones, that's a compromise I'm more than happy to live with.

FWIW, I'd say JJ's Trek make Star Trek cool to teens and young adults, again. And all it had to do was...show our heroes as teens and young adults.

So I'd recommend a Trek "Starfleet Academy" series (or miniseries)--or perhaps a "Jake and Nog adventures" miniseries, or something....

Pocket Books did exactly that in the 90s - they had series of novels aimed at young readers. There was the Starfleet Academy series, primarily showing the TNG characters as cadets though they did do ones for TOS featuring Kirk, Spock and McCoy, and Voyager ones featuring Janeway. They also did DS9 novels focusing on "Jake and Nog adventures" as you put it.

Hey CBS, Rod Roddenberry is looking for something to do....and the kid thinks just like his dad. Might be worth a phone call....????

Yeah, this got pretty far into the planning stages but CBS balked. It would have been considerably cheaper than CG animation and they still backed out. The only reason Clone Wars can be made is because Lucas is funding it off his own back and selling the final product to Cartoon Network. I seriously doubt a network funded CG show would work.
