Anyone giving anything up for lent?

I've had enough trouble quitting drinking. I don't need a seasonal occurrence to give me another timeline.

Not Catholic, so not obligated.

;)

I am going to densely tell people I encounter tomorrow that they've got a dirty spot on their forehead. ;)

I'm giving up chocolate. My sister and nephew think I'm insane (and I know my brother-in-law, a big time chocoholic, is laughing at me behind my back!). But I've given up Coke for the past three Lents, and it's no longer a challenge! No chocolate is a big sacrifice for me.

If you don't hear from me after six weeks, I've probably died. :p

I have developed some really bad habits over the past few months so I'm going to see if I can give up soda and baked goods for lent. With a little luck, I'll never go back to them (ok, maybe a little in moderation).

I had a pack of Ho-Ho's at lunch today and now I am slowly savoring a bottle of Coke. I honestly think that it'll take some divine intervention to hold off the next 6 weeks, but I'm going to give it a shot. Anyone else?

TNZ!

You're not exactly giving that up by choice.
;)

Last year I gave up oxygen. This year I'm going to take a vacation from my professional hitman job and not kill anyone during lent.

Giving up a women's TV network must've been tough for you. I know how much you love Oprah. ;)

You can take away my vices when you pry them from my cold dead fingers.

Seriously, I'm not catholic so I don't observe Lent, but I can see that disciplining yourself can be an interesting experiment in self examination, especially if you are giving up something just for the sake of it, so health or other reasons. Mind over matter, so to speak. I just find it weird when it's institutionalized, like in Lent or Ramadan.

However, just to welcome everybody to the enlightened age that Italy is living nowadays, today for the first time ever the office of the mayor in Rome had dispatched a decree banning meat every Friday from all public school refectories in the city. I'm not talking about the Vatican, but the supposedly secular mayor of the city. I guess we'll have to kiss the fisherman's ring the next time we will go to the polls, too. Sheesh...
