Anyone giving anything up for lent?

I have developed some really bad habits over the past few months so I'm going to see if I can give up soda and baked goods for lent. With a little luck, I'll never go back to them (ok, maybe a little in moderation).

I had a pack of Ho-Ho's at lunch today and now I am slowly savoring a bottle of Coke. I honestly think that it'll take some divine intervention to hold off the next 6 weeks, but I'm going to give it a shot. Anyone else?

Not coincidentally, I was considering this very thing just last night. I'm a Protestant, so we don't have a long tradition of giving up something for Lent, but many Protestant churches are revisiting traditional practices, including observing Lent (though not always in a "I'm giving up chocolate" kind of way). What I'm going to try to do for Lent is give up wine. I love wine, but I've started getting these horrible headaches when I have more than, say, two glasses. So I think I need to get whatever it is that's giving me those headaches out of my system, and six weeks sounds about right.

It's going to be a wrench, though...

I'm not giving up anything.

Neither am I. I go to church every week, go to Ash Wednesday service, probably be more giving to others this season, which is the point of lent, as well as to reflect in prayer, as I see it.

Last year I gave up chocolate and suffered greatly. This year I refuse to give up anything but I will send a nice check to the alzheimer's association.

I once successfully gave up Lent for Lent. I can't remember how.

I haven't decided what, if anything, I'm giving up this year. Last year I gave up TrekBBS, and it was rather interesting.

I might give up TNZ only this year.

I'm giving up self-denial. I'm going to indulge all my vices. :bolian:

I wish I had some vices. :(

Jesus getting nailed to a cross and dying was a nice gesture and all, but I'm giving up chocolate because I want to get into heaven.

I've never really observed Lent. Last year my fiancee gave up pizza and that was just annoying for me because I always wanted to order pizza, haha! There are a few indulgences I could give up but likely will not:

1. Coffee (impossible)
2. Alcohol (Certainly doable, but would it an annoying thing to give up)
3. Facebook (I'd go through withdrawal, seriously).

Since I won't be giving these things up, I've decided for Lent I'm going to give up my wisdom teeth. The oral surgeon seems to want them more than I do, anyway.
