Anyone feel sympathy for the Prenom in CHOSEN REALM?

I just watche it again for the first time since it originally aired.

Depsite all the bad stuff he did I felt sorry for him at the end where he's standing amid the ruins of the city and he is literally struck speechless at the sight of all that he knows being gone.

I think you were supposed to feel some sympathy for him, sort of 'Let That Be Your Last Battlefield' style. I didn't though. That guy was a douche and it was kind of rewarding to see Archer smugly drop him off there at the end of the episode.

Not for a second. He was a war monger and a murderer. He attacked others because they had different beliefs and forced those who didn't believe in his religion to do his bidding. I thought the ending was perfect, showing how stupid and insanely destructive religious figures can be.
(not trying to start a holy war on the BBS)

I didn't. He was a stereotypical one-dimentional bad guy, and the episode itself was a horribly over-simplified parody of a problem that's actually facing the world today.

Nope. I felt sorry for all the dead people that died as a result of his fanaticism. I wish Archer had phasered the guy until he was a lump of charcoal.

Not at all. Not remotely. Even leaving him alive amidst ruins was a probably a mistake (not that Archer had it in him to kill an unarmed man). People like him won't change...he'll find new ways to be a murderous fanatic. He's danger to what's left of his race. If the people left have any sense they'll exile him at least, if not lynch him.

The only thing one can say about his character, is he wasn't a hypocrite. Too often Trek tries to make fanatics hypocrites (for example, they could said "I know the spheres aren't holy...I'm just using their legend to gain power...mwahahahaha!")

I take that lynching idea back. Archer should've handed him over to the other sect, whose people were killed by Prenom. Maybe they were no better, but that's not Archer's concern.

Also, to comment on the episode...it's a cop out of sorts. Later revelations of the Xindi revering the sphere builders, but aren't religious fanatics (except debatebly the reptilians). The Xindi, for the most part, weren't the real enemy, the Sphere Builders were. So that nullified real world commentary on murderous attacks by religious fanatics. In order to portray that message, they did CHOSEN REALM instead. Even in CHOSEN REALM there's still a iffy premise that the followers were misled by Prenom. This casts all the villainy on Prenom, when in fact his whole group are liable for willingly following him.

Except he wasn't even on the planet when it happened.

The people who actually blew those cities up were all dead by the time the Ent got there.
