Anyone feel Nimoy shouldn't be in this film?

Oh yeah: as best as I can speculate, w/o seeing the film, I think having Nimoy in it will needlessly complicate matters and take the spot-light off the new cast (especially if the time travel/alternate time-line rumors prove true). Won't know for sure till Chrismas 2008, though.

I'm not sure I share this blind faith in Nimoy. For one thing, he cashed in on the "Klingons in the White House" comment by the Senator (I believe from Idaho). The next day the guy's on Daily Show making jokes about it. That doesn't sound to me like a guy who wasn't wanting a chance to mug for a camera.

I'm not sure I quite understand this argument, but it's possible you know more about it than I do. I did see the Daily Show episode in which it occurred, and he was NOT mugging in front of the camera. We never see Nimoy on the show; we just hear his voice. It was actually set up to look like a brief phone conversation between him and Stewart. This little humorous segment just amounted to few prerecorded lines of dialogue. Maybe you know more behind-the-scenes information about it than I do, but on the surface it hardly sounds like someone salivating to appear on camera, especially when he didn't actually appear at all unless you're counting the still photo they put up on the screen of him during the conversation. :p

^^Right, I don't think "cashed-in" is the right words to use in that thing considering the whole thing was probably not even Nimoy's idea.

I thought it was cute, funny and in no way demeaned Nimoy or Star Trek (or George Takei, for that matter).

Oh, and one final note to the "No Fat Kirks" crowd: In "Corbomite," Kirk is explicitly stated to have trouble keeping his weight down. Funny how The Shat's current physique dovetails so well with continuity. :D
