Anyone else missing LOST?

About this time for the last few years I'd be getting jazzed up for Lost's premiere in January--making up for the horribly bland fall set of shows but now there isn't going to be anything compelling in the spring this year--television-wise--to get excited about except more bland shows. And this fall was especially bad with hardly any shows worth watching and those that were weren't the kind where you couldn't wait to watch the next installment.

Since Trek unfortunately ended, LOST along with BSG and S1 Heroes were the only shows that really sparked a lot of interesting discussion on the board but nowadays the fora are pretty much ghost towns with little in the way of activity or interest.

So anyone becoming wistful for the days of a new episode of LOST that bombarded us with tons of information where everbody couldn't wait to chat about it? The board is kinda slow these days.

Not at all.
Maybe sometime, when I'm bored, I'll rewatch the first 5 seasons, forgetting that the sixth ever happened.

I'm just now watching Lost on DVD and, forgive me - I just don't get the hype. it's entertaining enough, but my interest in most of the characters is medium at best. Jack's unbelievably annoying, Kate was intriguing at first but has gone the way of so many interesting female characters - she got laid and the writers are now ignorning her except as a love interest (I'm in Season 3 at the moment). I've always liked Locke and still find his "relationship to the island" fairly interesting but Charlie's death affected me not at all, and, Jesus Christ, if something doesn't kill Desmond soon, I'm going to scream... brotha. I can't believe they moved that guy to the forefront and killed off Eko, who I actually really dug. All in all it strikes me as over-heated sensationalist writing with very little soul. But it'll do to have on as I'm cleanign up the house.

As disappointed as I was with the final season...I will miss LOST.

I somewhat agree with this--with the exception of season 1 where the characters were very much a central focus of the series-- I thought LOST's plot/mysteries were the most interesting aspect of the show and what I mainly watched it for each week. The characters were there to move the plot along, provide exposition and be action figures within this sweeping epic arc--like Season one of Heroes(if you didn't like S1 Heroes you probably won't like LOST).

I'll also concede that because it was so densely plotted and so fast-paced that it really didn't give a chance to let the audience connect with the cast the way they might have with a more modest ensemble since it feverishly jumped around.

So yes LOST had its nice character moments but what was the most engaging and fun for me were the twists, cliffhangers, and trying to figure out the mysteries and what was going on. It also did something a lot of shows haven't done in recent years--attempted to be interesting and come up with fresh ideas and imaginative concepts as well as mixing things up instead of going the obvious predictable route.

I do and I don't. I love the way the show wrapped up so I was very satisfied but I do miss the weekly viewings of it during the winter months.

Eh, sort of, but also not really. I absolutely loved the first five seasons, but the sixth season, and particularly the finale, kind of killed a lot of my love for the show.

Ha! As someone who actually really liked the 6th season and the whole show really, I do "miss" it, however I only watched it after the show was over. So, I can't really miss it as a weekly TV show. I think from point A to point B it told a great story that, while some of the aspects didn't, the sume of the parts made sense. These characters really struck a chord with me that I hadn't experienced since Buffy or Firefly and every single one of them when on a journey (all 20 something), something Star Trek was really never able to accomplish. I would like another show that can pull off this kind of writing, but not copy it. Because if they try too hard to copy, it will be extremely obvious and miss all the charm of the show (I'm looking at you, The Event!).

Edit: Manonthewave, I agree completely. When I say I miss Lost, I'm not saying I would have liked to see Season 7 actually quite the contrary. I think that parts of seasons 1 and 2 could have been combined to make the show even shorter and it would have benefited. No, I definitely don't want more Lost, just something that can take its spot.

My feelings are very similar to sidious618. I quite liked the finale and enjoyed many parts of season six, though I also felt that character motivation (on the part of Jack most notably) was lacking quite a bit in the season. I do miss the thrill ride of watching the show week in and week out but I'm satisfied with the ultimate resolution of the series, so I don't miss it as much as I do other shows.

Incidentally, sidious, I like your avatar. Justified is a damned good show - eagerly looking forward to season two. I just bought the Elmore Leonard novel (Pronto) that first introduced the Raylan Givens character yesterday, though it's going to be quite some time before I have a chance to read it.

No. I was a big fan, but by the middle of the fifth season I was beginning to get a little tired of it.

I could do with some more Lost. And the way the show ended, they could easily do more seasons.

...and, Jesus Christ, if something doesn't kill Desmond soon, I'm going to scream... brotha. I can't believe they moved that guy to the forefront and killed off Eko, who I actually really dug.
They had plans for Eko, but from what I understand, the actor wanted out.

Ah. I wondered why his death was so abrupt.

Nope. And not just because I didn't like the ending, because long before then I'd forgotten most of the stuff from the beginning and no longer cared about any of the characters. If you don't care about the characters then I'm afraid the story doesn't even matter.

I think Lost had a good run and there's not much else from that particular story we need to hear about.

What I'm missing is some other sf/f show of the same caliber of imagination, plotting and characterization. The Walking Dead might be that show, but now we have to wait till next Oct to see if they can keep up what they started. I had hopes for Caprica, with a great cast and the beginnings of a great premise, but they dicked around too much without focusing on what the story was supposed to be, alienated the viewers and got their fool selves cancelled.

I've gotten to the point where my favorite sci fi show is for kids: The Clone Wars. It's shaping up to be a lot better than I expected considering I'd totally written Star Wars off after the disaster of the PT, and I didn't like the animation at first (I've gotten used to it; the characters still don't move right but the animators do a good job with facial expressions anyway, and the animation style is perfect for everything but the humanoids).

I'm also missing seeing the Lost actors on TV - when is Josh Holloway, Michael Emerson, Nestor Carbonnell, et al going to resurface, hopefully not on some formulaic L&O/CSI/NCIS show that isn't worth suffering through just to see them. How come so many good actors just frakkin' vanish?

Not sure about Carbonell (though there's a movie listed in post-production on his IMDB page), but Emerson - and O'Quinn - will be back in the Abrams-produced Odd Jobs, assuming NBC gives it a series order. Josh Holloway has a role in Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol.

I'd heard about Odd Jobs but I'm not holding my breath for it. I hope Holloway hasn't abandoned TV for movies, but I wouldn't be surprised if he has, since it's probably a great career move.
