Anyone else love Seska?

loved loved loved Seska. Thought she should have ended up the Empress of the Kazon HEgemony or some such thing. Deliciously evil with so much potential. It made me cringe to see her have to snivel to Cullah. Eergh!!!!

It made sense - the Kazon culture was male-dominated. There's no way the Kazon would take orders from a woman, and especially not a non-Kazon woman. Thus, she becomes the power behind the throne of the largest and most powerful Kazon sect. It puts her in a position where she's capable of switching sides if things for Cullah start going south and come out on top.

13 episodes. (12 stories if you count basics as "one".)

2 after she was dead.
5 where she was a Bajoran semiExtra who was never told to act like a disguised Cardassian.
3 where she was playing phone tag with Jonas and barely on screen for a few seconds.

Which leaves bugger all meat to go with this salad.

I have to wonder if Kulluh was the exception to the rule? We barely saw any female Kazon? maybe all the blokes were pushed around by their wives which is why they had to talk so loud about how they were in charge?

besides above a certain body count gender ceases to matter.

Seska can't have had to have killed too many more people to qualify as a man in their eyes?

I would have loved to have seen a flash back episode of her fall and rise. Start with her assignment to Chakotay because she was the best of the best or she was being punished, her seduction and inclusion of Chuckles, spotting Tuvok as a spy too and deciding about whether to kill him? Her own conversation with the Caretaker? Left behind stragglers from Gul Mossets crew, bodies even? the Cloaked ship from the Voyager Conspiracy, why she gave up on Janeway, attempted and vetoed relationships with other space empires in the DQ, you don't think the kazon, despite being so easy to manipulate, since a loyal dog is better than a clever dog, was her first choice? Then her inception and eventual assimilation of the kazon followed by her mad quest to strip Voyager down for spare parts and lift the Kazon up by their boot straps completed by her death from a slightly skewed perspective revealing something we didn't notice the first time around like love or hate.

But no, they'd rather have another story about a space vagina puking time while one of the crew relearns a valuable ethical lesson they already learnt three weeks ago last time it was their turn through the wringer and their parents deserve a good slapping for never teaching them in the first place.

I liked Seska in the beginning as a Bajoran. She added a needed friction to help create drama aboard ship. I never cared for her as a Cardassian in league with the Kazon.

Interesting question, because Kullah probably would have wanted it for funeral rights, and when they got home; the Cardassian Government would have medically needed to prosecute and execute someone.

I loved Seska. "State of Flux" is one of my favorite Trek shows, and the best Seska show IMO. I thought she was the perfect villain for the VOY crew and I loved how she played Chakotay. When they killed her off, it was just another example that the VOY writers didn't know what to do with the gold in their possession.

It would have been fantastic if Seska had survived after Cullah took the baby--or even if she and the baby had been left behind. What would Janeway do to her? How would her presence have complicated things?

Interesting questions to contemplate.

I'd like to add Hackett is awesome. I've met her twice (She even remember me the second time!) both in non-Trek related settings and she was genuinely warm and kind.

We really didn't talk Seska or Trek in general for that matter other than I mentioned Seska was one of my favorite Trek villains and that was it. We mostly just chewed the fat.

Hackett is a class act.

I had the chance to see her do her first Trek con in Las Vegas a few years back. She was in a small room instead of the main auditorium and was paired with a more experienced actor (I think it was Vaughan Armstrong). I'm guessing she was a little bit intimidated by Star Trek fans. ;)

Anyway, she was marvelous and shared with us some of what she based Seska's actions on. She said that Seska was truly in love with Chakotay and that she believed she was doing the right thing for him and the crew by circumventing the captain. I loved it when she would unconsciously slip into a very "Seskaesque" voice when she started talking about the character.

I did like Seska in the beginning as well. And in Basics, she came about with some soap opera drama with saying that Chakotay was the father of her unborn child. I remember my mouth dropping 30 feet when she told him: "you're going to be a father". She did have a cunning sense about her. And in Prime Factors, she proved to be a villian out to destroy Starfleet by putting some technology into Engineering's systems to get home a little quicker.
It did make me cringe when she got with Cullah later on. That completely took me by surprise!

Did you miss the episode where she harvested his sperm?

She raped him for a baby.

I laughed my ass off.

Voyager was twice as fast as anything in the Kazon fleet, she had to have a damn good reason to make them turn around and tread water so she could catch up and hatch plots.

I'm of the opinion that the baby should have been Chakotay's and Seska should have remained on the show all the way through. I really like the later seasons, don't get me wrong, but there was so much wasted potential...

Sadly, the intricacies and details of Kazon culture were often overlooked in favour of their being generic thuggish villains. Another example of sadly wasted potential. "Voyager" was a very good show, but it could have been an excellent one...
