Anyone else looking forward to a new Riddick movie?

Count me in as well. It's also one of the few movies that compsoer Graeme Revell does anything worth a damn on anymore, so bringing him back would be a huge plus too.

I'll agree that there was a major, jarring change in tone between Pitch Black & The Chronicles of Riddick. Pitch Black is the best Aliens rip-off ever made (and sounds a lot like David Twohy's rejected pitch for Alien 3). The Chronicles of Riddick wasn't quite as good but I thought the ending left things with a lot of interesting places to go. I'm all for Riddick III!

And that's why I was so entertained watching CoR. Since I was a kid, I've been disappointed by sequels. With just a handful of exceptions, sequels are tired retreads trying to repeat the tone and formula of the original. I've ALWAYS wanted to see a sequel totally divorced from the original one except for the inclusion of one or more of the characters. I never understood why an action movie can't spawn a sequel that's a comedy, or why a romance can't spawn a murder mystery sequel.

So I'm looking forward to the next Riddick film, and I wouldn't mind if it turns out to be a musical comedy, as long as it's entertaining.

WEll, the creator did say it was part of a trilogy of films (starting after PB). It was just the poor sales at first that got it pushed back and Vin's constant shooting schedule with other films, but when it made it's money back with DVD sales from then to now and actualyl profitted (though not by much last I heard) that it actually had a shot. Hell, if this can get a sequel, I don't see why "Serenity" can't (especially since S showed how much it could accomplish with a limited budget and time scehdule).

Pitch Black and Chronicles were two VERY different movies. First time watching each I preferred Pitch Black by a country mile, and it's still the better movie. First time I watched Chronicles, it was late at night and I can't say I gave it my full attention, but I found the storyline/characters very jumbled.

Since then, I've seen it a couple more times, at least part of the way through (it's repeated on TV a fair bit), and I appreciate the ideas and some parts of the movie a lot more. I'd be interested in seeing more Riddick in that universe.

But damn, get a decent script editor.

The first time I watched Chronicles I fell asleep, the second time I watched it I loved it. I would really like to see a third film.

They greenlite the movie? Never knew that. Last I heard they wanted to do a couple DVD movies for cheap.

I like the character and the universe seems dark but the last one was a HUGE mess.

Absolutely.

I found Chronicles of Riddick to be one of the better modern science fiction movies of the last 10 years.

They greenlite the movie?

No, not yet. Diesel just confirmed that the script is there, and they are hoping to start production early next year. I'm guessing that the "hoping" part refers to the fact that they're probably still trying to get the studio to greenlight it.

I would be very happy to see a new Riddick movie. There doesn't seem to be a lot of science fiction not based on Earth out there right now.

Considering the games and DVDs sold very well there is no reason not to continue with a couble more movies, even if they are cheap.

No. Pitch Black was great, but Riddick was a cheap (and HORRIBLY done) attempt to take one good character and form a sci-fi universe around him. The whole sequel is a mess, and there's a reason why it's taken 5 years to hear anything about a sequel to Riddick. Because it failed miserably.

I know I am. Pitch Black was excellent, and Chronicles was even better in a lot of ways, especially visually. In fact, I'd say Chronicles ranks very near the top spot in my most visually awe-inspiring movies of all time list. Riddick is a great character and I can't wait to see more of him! :D

Sure, I'll watch it, I'd prefer it were in the vein of Pitch Black rather than Chronicles of Riddick though. They're unsophisticated but entertaining films, quite interesting visually too.

Heck yeah, I would definitely take another Riddick movie I really loved the character and agree that CoR was one of the better examples of a modern science fiction movie. Pitch Black was okay as well but not as good.

Just have Riddick follow the same path as Conan. Now that he is king the adventures can really begin. More power from the Underverse for everyone.
