I've probably endured more ear infections in one ear before the age of 15 than most entire families in a lifetime. Seriously, I spent many a Saturday morning of my adolescence in the ear doctor's chair due to an ear ache, two sets of tubes, and two tympanoplasties on my right eardrum. Hell, I'm probably two doctor visits away from becoming a full fledged ENT.
Anyway, a few years ago, after bout with an infection, the ear doctor told me that if needed, a solution of vinegar and water works great in lieu of antibiotics. Mix it at a ratio of about 7:1 or so and administer it three times per day to the affected ear. The acidity of the vinegar kills bacteria. Apply a few drops while lying your head to the side and wait about a minute or so. Once upright, wipe away any fluid that drains. You should notice an improvement within 3-4 days. A couple of years ago, my son was complaining his ear hurt and the school nurse told him it was allergies. Yeah, right. I used that solution on him and inside of two days he was feeling much better. I continued for five whole days and he was right as rain,.
