Anyone else go OUT OF THEIR way to find a 2D Version of a movie?

What sucks though is the 3D showings take all the good showing times.

There was a movie recently... all of the 7pm, 8pm, 9pm showings were 3d. For 2D, you had to choose 6:20pm or 10:20pm.

I've seen many 3D movies the past few years, and to this day, Avatar is still the ONLY one worth a damn from a 3D perspective.

i saw Clash of the Titans in 2D cuz i objected to the extra price for 3D. When Shrek 4 came out, my local fleapit only showed it in 3D the first weekend, so i sucked it up and went. week later, 2D screenings. TS3, though, they were showing it in 2D and 3D so i went to the 2D.

I'm seeing Tron 2 in 3D, because it was made for 3D wasn't it?

next year, i intend to see Thor, Conan, Transformers 3 and Cap America in 2D if i can...

I'm not a fan of converted 3-D. It seems to be an obvious grab at my buck and doesn't really add to the picture, Alice in Wonderland, for example. It wasn't conceived in 3D, and there was VERY little added to it. Didn't help the movie was crap too.
I would rather stick with native 3D films, like Avatar.

This (right down to agreeing re: Alice in Wonderland). If a film is converted to 3D in post-production, I refuse to see it, and I've made certain that my friends are well-aware that I won't. If it was filmed in 3D, I'll be much more likely to see it in that format, as I did Avatar.

Considering the trailer for Thor stated "2D in Select Theaters," I may not end up seeing that until the DVD release if the three theaters here only show it in 3D. One of those theaters will also be an IMAX theater after February/March, so we'll see, I suppose.

Does anyone know of statistics out there showing how well the 3D versions of movies are doing at the box office in comparison to the 2D versions? I'm sure Hollywood studios must be paying close attention to numbers like that.

I have no problem finding regular film versions of shows. Usually, either the theaters play both versions or the film that's in 3D is something I wouldn't have seen in 2D anyway.

I would think they'd be keeping track, but 3D comes with a premium cost, so, they are probably doing better with the 3D than with the 2D, even if the same numbers of people go to each.

However, my guess: more are seeing the 3D.

All of the 3D movies of the last few years have been released to home video in 2D.

My local theater doesn't have 3D capabilities, so I don't have to try too hard. When I do go to a big multiplex, or something, it really depends on the movie. Avatar I think was really worth seeing in 3D. Alice in Wonderland, I would have been just a happy without. Tron is another that I think it will be worth the 3D.

One of the nearest theaters to me is only showing Tron Legacy in 3D and fake IMAX 3D.

It's all those post-production 3D "conversions" like Clash of the Titans that are annoying.

I will wait for the movie on dvd if 3d is the only option, i only take my son to 3d movies because the the glasses give me a headache... my son's big into 3d tho.. he's seven go figure and it's anew thing to him, wants me to buy him a 3d tv, that'll happen, the day he enter's college.

I've only seen 1 film in 3D, took my nephew to see "How to Train Your Dragon" and it was good, in 3D and regular.

I didn't think so many films where being done in it.

Pretty much any movie with the smallest amount of action is being done in 3D these days.

Yet to see any films in 3D, but thinking about seeing Tron Legacy tomorrow. Never got around to seeing Avatar in 3D. As both films were filmed for 3D, don't really want to see either in 2D. Some of the other films that have been released in 3D over the past year or so, haven't really had an interest in seeing them at the cinema. But I prefer 2D over 3D.

On DVD, yes. 3D Blu-ray editions are starting to come around now that there are 3D TVs entering the market. I think there are only a handful of 3D Blu-rays such as "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" and the live-action "Last Airbender" movie, but they are in addition to 2D releases. So there are no 3D-only home versions that I'm aware of.

If it's supposed to be in 3D, I'll watch it in 3D. If it's a 2D movie that was converted to 3D, I might go to a 2D version, but, more likely, it'll probably suck, so I'll skip it entirely.

I've only ever seen 3-D films twice and both times it because a 2-D version wasn't available. Both times (Up and Avatar) I found it to be distracting and unnecessary. I always go out of my way to watch 2-D if I can.

I have young kids who want to see movies like Despicable Me, etc. but get frightened by the 3D, so we go 2D when possible. There are two theaters near us, the main one and the "cheap" one. The "cheap" one only shows 3D, so we're forced to pay more to see these movies either way and usually opt for the more expensive, but 2D theater.
