Anyone else disappointed in First Contact Day 2023

I was really disappoined, I was expecting maybe another announced show and/mini series or failing that more details on SFA or the new upcoming seasons for SNWs, Lower Decks, or Prodigy, instead all we got were some new SNW posters.

Kind of boring.

Wednesday is a hard marketing day, especially with an episode dropping.

Meh, I never put much stock in celebratory days.

Why announce something on the premiere of Mario's movie and risk losing your thunder? As it is the D&D movie will probably suffer just for releasing within a week of Mario.

They announced SFA last Thursday, the very day that the last episode of Picard dropped.

Needless to say, I was :brickwall:

"Let's just catch up with Future of Trek real quick..."

I'm sticking with my theory that Yeoh is going to cameo on tomorrow's episode and they're going simultaneously announce S31 tomorrow or Friday.

If none of that happens then I'm prepared also to be disappointed.

We did get the TNG films in glorious 4K (albeit a day ahead). Today I watched GEN for the first time in five years, forgot just how good the first hour was.

Well. Credit where credit's due - you're certainly aiming high. :P

Agreed. Not too big on the second hour, but the first is a wonderful time.

I am kind of surprised we haven't gotten a trailer for SNW, but otherwise First Contact Day is more or less as I predicted it would be.

Star Trek Day (8th September) is their big marketing day. I quite like that they don't turn First Contact Day into a big marketing thing.

I suspect some people are misinterpreting the big hooplah they put on for First Contact Day in 2021, which included trailers for Lower Decks and Disco as well as a bunch of zoom interviews with the various casts and assuming that would become normal. But looking back and applying historical context, April 2021 we were still in the Serious Days of the pandemic, with many places still on lockdown and there'd been no Trek on TV since Disco S3 ended that January and wouldn't be until Lower Decks premiered in August. The First Contact Day 2021 event was every bit an effort to provide some light to what was for many still a dark time in their lives and to quench the fandom's thirst during a drought of new material.

That's not really the case anymore. The pandemic is no longer as big a deal and indeed much of the world has returned to normal and we're still in the middle of a new season of a Trek series with new episodes airing every week. So there isn't as much of a need to go all out like they did in 2021 anymore.

I hope your wrong about that, the D&D movie was awesome, and I just don't get the excitement for goofy Mario movie. I played my mario brothers stuff when I was a kid, but its not like its an immersive setting.

Even if they didn't make major announcement they could have done something exciting or interesting, all we got is some digital posters, its a let down.

You really don't know your Mario lore do you? It's as immersive as you want it to be.

It's clearly not their marketing push day. That will come later.

As heart breaks go I rate this on the low end of the scale.

I admit its been years since I last played a Mario game, I'm not a fan so the idea it could screw over a movie I love and to succeed, that deserves to succeed, pisses me off and has honestly breed some resentment towards the Mario movie from me. I hate it stealing DADHAT's thunder.

I can't be objective. That being said I think there will be a sequel to DADHAT because because Paramount/Hasbro did 3 GI Joe movies, none of which made money at the box office and in fact lost money, and they still making a 4th GI Joe movie.

Mario is a staple of my childhood so I'm not objective either. However, D&D will always be an Intellivision game to me so it resonates far less.

I hope it does get a sequel though and keeps Chris Pine. I do like him.

Remember when the 50th anniversary happened and we got one decent movie that underperformed and killed the movie franchise and nothing else?

I think we've been a bit spoiled as of late:lol:
