Anyone else anti-social networking?

I have no interest in social networking sites like FB or Twitter. I signed into Facebook to help an older friend put her page together, but I never went back to it. I'm just not interested, nor am I terribly social.

I'm satisfied with just this site for a minor bit of anonymous social postings and whatnot. All the people I know in real life can find me if they want, and I'm fairly certain that they don't give a damn what I'm doing from day to day.

I use facebook to post fandom news, trek videos, the occaisional anti-war article that I hope might make the younger kids on my friends list think a bit. I don't use my real name. It's an extension of my fandom interests and most people on my friend's list share some of that.

You can make it what you want it to be. All this, "I don't want everyone to know what I'm doing" stuff.. well then don't tell them! Don't friend them! Don't use your real name if you don't want relatives bugging you to friend them. The point of it is to have fun. I wouldn't have fun making it about real life AT ALL so I don't, unless it's one of those rare moments when real life is actually funny.

It's also good for trolling people which is about all mr. teacake uses it for. He has hundreds of friends and only gets excited about FB if he thinks of a perfect comment to piss them off.

Actually, if I were to intentionally misunderstand the OP, I suppose I could say that I antisocially network all the time.

It's only as invasive as one lets it be. My only regret right now is using my real name, because of employers tendencies to cyberstalk people. (don't they have any dusting to do or something?)

I'm in a band with members in maryland, new york city, western new york, and eastern new york. I have real friends all over the country, and a few around the world, so for me, it's a nice thing. Still, I don't use it every day. I don't post what I had for dinner, or how big my shit was this morning.

I find social networking idiotic as a concept. Lucky me, I have a job where I have to use Facebook and Twitter at least passingly. Facebook is an ugly, unreliable, poorly designed piece of shit. We just love the way they constantly change their plugins so that we have to fix our frakking site when they break something! Just happened today, I found a bug that wasn't there last week, imagine that. Guess whose fault that was.

If I want to talk to a bunch of random people I don't even know, that's what TrekBBS is for. :D For people I know in RL, I just see them in RL or call them on the phone. Is that so hard?

I'm not opposed to social networking, it's just not something I'm interested in doing myself. Friends and family bug me about not being on Facebook frequently though, which is kind of irritating, since they all have my phone number, email, and see me in person occasionally.

It is for me.

Among my Facebook 'friends' I have a niece plus a former neighbour in Brisbane, another former neighbour on the Gold Coast, a nephew in Canberra, a former neighbour (and very good friend) in Adelaide and another former neighbour elsewhere in South Australia, and another former neighbour (and very good friend) in the USA. It would be quite expensive for me to see them, or phone them very often.
