Anyone consider quitting Facebook because...

inventor/founder Mark Zuckerberg is a tremendous douchebag?

Whenever I see interviews of him, or read interviews about him or see his damn picture he just looks like the kind of jackass who could use a could punch in the face.

I deactivated my account months ago and there are very few things I miss about it.

I have never used Facebook. I still do not understand why people choose to display every minute detail of their lives online. I do not use Twitter, MySpace, etc. for the same reason. I value my privacy. If this makes me a relic, then I prefer to be the relic Montgomery Scott found himself to be in TNG.

Mark Zuckerberg is the subject of a lawsuit wherein he is accused of stealing Facebook from his employer. Every interview with him that I have watched leads me to believe he is fully capable of such actions.

Not a member, but it's just another reason on the list not to join. He's more offputting than Bobby Kotick or Julian Assange, which is saying something.

I'm always reminded of that line from Hitchcock's Rope: "Well he was from Harvard, you could argue it was justifiable homicide."

Also refrained from seeing The Social Network on account of not wanting to get Facebook germs.

I use it to keep in contact with old friends. Whenever the next big thing comes along, I'll probably go there to stay in contact with old friends.

His attitudes about privacy are a factor in what goes on my facebook page. I have all my settings locked down but I don't post anything that I wouldn't want potential employers to see. I just operate under the assumption that everything on there can be visible to the general public. At some point, it probably will be.

Neither do I. I find Facebook to be a convenient way to keep up w/ certain friends (and the only way to keep up w/ my godchildren), and I have made a couple new friends there. But none of us post the minute details that FB, Twitter, etc. are notorious for.

If we quit everything because of douche-bags we would never get up in the morning.

:techman:

Eh, so he's an asshole, who cares? It doesn't make Facebook any less useful.

And it's not necessary to post every detail of your life online. I certainly don't.

I even changed my last name.

I can't believe the people who don't lock their site so only "friends" can see it! Then the bitch about what their "friends" post that they don't want their parents to see, workers to see, etc.

I have it set up so only about 10-15 people can read what I post. I don't drink or smoke, but I have done things that I wouldn't won't out, but I don't post it! I literally had friends that had posts about them getting fucked. They didn't say "I got fucked" but everyone knew what he meant. Sure his mom loved that one. The only things I ever post are mainly news, like the FDA banning stupid things like Four Loko and Sweet Herb but not going after tobacco. The congresswoman being shot today, and the fact that the "Uganda Kill the Gays!" pastor runs a free hatred filled coffee shop 5 miles from my house!

I don't need to know "I'm so wasted right now", and neither does your boss.

However none that matters if the founder is an asshole.

I've quit because everyone else has quit. I said this in another thread and everyone jumped on me for it, but it's true in my neck of the woods; facebook has been replaced by smart phones.

Eventually something will replace those, but fact remains facebook is dead. Don't believe me? Look at the list of developers making software for it and the advertising on it. Both are in sharp decline, to almost zero. Very clear sign of website degradation.

No plans to quit as it is still useful for me.

I only have 27 friends on Facebook. 7 of those are relatives, the majority of the rest are people I know in real life. Only two are people I only know online and one of these is a hobby horse.

Nope. When I quit Facebook, it will be because Facebook is no longer useful to me, and for no other reason.

Whenever I see interviews of him, or read interviews about him or see his damn picture he just looks like the kind of jackass who could use a could punch in the face.
That says far more about you than it does about him, I'm afraid, and not a damned thing about Facebook.

Nor do I. I'm quite jealous of my privacy, in fact -- if it's not something I don't want just anyone knowing, you won't find anything about it on my Facebook or on any of my other internet accounts. That's not being a relic; it's simple common sense.

Quit a few days ago. I was considering it after I saw the movie but his douchebagness was only part of the reason.

Wow, guys... The Social Network is probably mostly fiction. I don't know Mark Zuckerberg personally, so I don't give a crap. Sounds like some people are jealous because he's a billionaire - or because they don't know how to operate privacy settings.
