Anybody here play NetHack?

I recently downloaded the free roguelike game NetHack. Even though it's frustrating figuring it all out and gets a little monotonous, I have to admit I'm addicted. Even though I feel a little cheap, because I play with the graphics turned on instead of ASCII art

Pretty much I made this thread so that people can share their experiences of this great, and confusing, game.

My first character was a Lawful Good Elf Wizard named Alex. He made it to about 300 turns before he was murdered by triggering the same dart trap too many times

I used to play NetHack way back when. I had totally forgotten about it until you mentioned it. Fun little game, but like you said a bit boring and repetitive.

I killed so many characters playing that, usually in the most "dumb" ways.

So far I've killed characters by kicking a wall, eating rotten corpses, throwing stuff up and having it land on my own head, drinking poisoned potions, and wearing secretly cursed items. I'm just waiting to eat a Rider corpse so that I can die that way too

Ah, yes, I remember it well. IIRC, I was a barbarian warrior, or something of the like. On occasion, if someone else was playing on the LAN, I might run into them and we'd have a fight. I'd also frequently run into a ghost of my former self from a prior life who would quite effectively kick the shit out of me. Eventually, I got the LAN high score and I got bored with it. I wound up cursing my patron god to end it all and it actually took him/her/it 3 tries to strike me down as I had gotten so strong at that point. I believe there is now a flavor of it in XBox Arcade, but I can't remember what it's called. I was pleasantly surprised to see it after not having played it for almost 15 years.
