Anybody got a WiFi 6 router?

I've been kicking around the idea of getting a WiFi 6, aka 802.11ax, router. (I'm particularly keen on the Netgear AX-1800)

My iMac doesn't yet support WiFi 6, but then again it's hardwired via Ethernet so it doesn't matter. My iPhone and iPad both do have 6, though.

Normally I wouldn't care as much because I don't use WiFi a hell of a lot but my current routers are AirPort Extremes and Apple doesn't make those anymore so I have been flirting with getting new routers. Anyhoo, I was just wondering if any of you have a WiFi 6 router and if so, how easy it is to set up (I will miss Apple's AirPort Utility which is super easy to use, but I see Netgear has a mobile app)

given that you'll only get wifi 6 support with all new hardware you're better off going to AC modem which is more likely to be supported by your current equipment.

As a single user it's unlikely you'll see any benefit for the extra costs.

Again: My iPhone and iPad DO support WiFi 6.
My iMac doesn't, but that's irrelevant since it's hardwired via Ethernet (as are my AppleTV and BluRay player).
So the basic thrust of the gist is that any of my gear which uses WiFi at all, WILL benefit from the new standard.

I have heard talk that 802.11ax is a fair bit faster.

Actually, the main reason I'm even considering this is that Apple no longer makes (or, presumably, supports) the AirPort Extreme router. The router I'm looking at is actively manufactured and supported. So if a new security flaw pops up, it can be fixed.

I just started looking at getting a WiFi 6 router, actually a WiFi 6 Mesh system. I currently using an extender with my current router. So upgrading to a Mesh system would be prudent and might as well upgrade at the same time.

Yup, I have a Wifi 6 gateway and also a brand new Wifi 6 wifi card for my PC. It was easy to set up because the procedure is almost completely automated now with Xfinity.

In my area our WIFI isn't the big bottleneck, it's our internet provider. We're SUPPOSED to have 200MB speeds for our internet. Depending on the time of day, the delivered speed will drop SUBSTATIALLY. I routinley connect to my WIFI router at 150MB+ while my internet connection nose dives to 30MB or less. Until the internet providers really deliver what their supposed to (or claim to), consistantly, having superfast WIFI will (probably) not improve overall performance. Food for thought....
