Anybody Else Read "The World Breaker"?

Hey guys,

I was actually here to start a conversation about the new Star Trek video game coming out, but I saw this forum and had to stop by.

I was just curious if anyone else has read "The World Breaker" by J Frazier??? It's my new obsession. I picked it up for my Kindle a couple of days ago when it popped up on the new science fiction list (I figured "what the heck", it's three bucks). A couple chapters in and I was absolutely hooked. Best science fiction I've read in a long, long time.

So, I'm just wondering if there are any other fans here? And seriously... if you haven't read it yet, you are missing out. It's like reading JK Rowling before Harry Potter took off.

P.s. Now time to get back to posting about the video game lol

Spam usually doesn't respond ;-)

And while I'd love to say I wrote the book, I'm afraid I can't make that claim. It is a wonderful read, however.

Sorry! Spammers roll through here often enough. I don't usually get lured into responding, but I was afraid I fell for it this time. So I repeat: Welcome to the board!

I took a look at that preview. The level of description did make it look like a fascinating read. However, the grammar and language errors took me out of the moment a little too often. I'm sensitive to that sort of thing in professional writing. I don't know if we should blame Frazier or his editor.

I'll probably check it out some day, but I don't have a Kindle-- I'll have to wait for a physical copy.

That's odd - I think I noticed two errors in the whole book when I was reading.

I think I saw a physical copy on the website... let me double check...

Yup, here it is: http://www.amazon.com/World-Breaker...7420/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1310439266&sr=8-1

And I'll tell you the thing that made me fall in love with the book (honestly, I feel like I've "discovered" something that will be big one day lol). When I was reading, the first several chapters were good, and I thought, "cool, this will be a good book." But around halfway in the book, the whole thing took off and it just kept getting better and better. There aren't many stories that start at the "good" level and then just continue getting better and better and better. I can't say much more because I don't want to spoil it.

Anywho - I wish I could find more discussion on the next JJ Abrams movie. Can anyone provide me a link to a thread on that? I originally wanted to join to discuss that and future video games based on the reboot, but I haven't been able to find threads on them. Thanks in advance!

There's an entire forum dedicated to discussion of the Abrams Trek films. It's mostly ST(09) because about the only thing we know about the next movie is that there will be one.

Thanks, Mike. I always rate movies on a 0-10 scale and the JJ Abrams reboot is one of the very few movies I have ever given a 10/10. It was a terrific movie.

I could tell you the errors I see, but I don't want to dampen your enthusiasm for the book. I'm a fairly critical person. (I thought Star Trek '09 was only just so-so, for example.) To each his own, though. :techman:

Anyway, I'll get to it eventually. It will probably be a while at the rate I'm going.

Sounds good. I think I'm going to re-read the LotR series... haven't done that since I was thirteen, so that might be fun. I was listening to a Game of Thrones excerpt yesterday and can't understand why that is being compared to Tolkien. I wasn't impressed (and I would have liked being impressed).

I haven't gotten around to reading those books either-- but everyone I know raves about them. One of these days....

In the meantime: Yes! Re-familiarize yourself with the old classic! The version of the story where Legolas wasn't an overamped action hero, Gimli wasn't just the butt of short jokes, Frodo wasn't carried around like a sack of potatoes, Treebeard wasn't an old fool who was ignorant of what went on in his forest, and the Dead Men didn't bury anyone in skulls.

Actually I think Jackson did a good job, but there were obviously some problems.

Lol - you know me and a friend were talking about that kind of thing the other day. His point was that while Jackson did a terrific job, Smeagol was made almost too cute, whereas the book described him in a horrific way.

C'mon Peter Jackson, give Gollum fish eyes like in the books =)

Well, he looked a lot more accurate in the Rankin-Bass movie (more like a frog), but it would have been harder to empathize with him looking that way. That was the intent.
