anybody else fancy 20 as-new 1:1 Spitfire kits...?

Ah. Thanks for clearing that up for me. I just assumed they all used the Merlin engine.

here's a view of a typical Spitfire F Mark XIV..

the 20mm cannon fitted to these provided a very respectable punch..

speed was almost 450 mph and with supercharging it was quite an altitude champ as well...one reached 51K ft in the early 50s...

Nice bubble canopy as well.

It'll be sometime before any of these are up in the air, I hope we get a full web treatment of the process.

I think I'd prefer a Griffon over a Merlin, but both are common enough that they could probably swap them during a rebuild if necessary.

Martin Baker built a reportedly outstanding fighter using the Griffon, looking vaguely like a Spitfire with a P-51 style radiator, flying in 1944, but they weren't produced because they'd already decided to pursue jets.
