I regret to say that I have no CD's by Voivod...yet!! But I hope to rectify that situation soon. In fact, hopefully within the space of a couple months, I will have Dimension Hatross, The Best Of Voivod, and the two recent discs with Jason Newsted (Voivod, Katorz)! At a later date, I may get Killing Technology. I'd like to get Nothingface, Angel Rat and The Outer Limits, but I'd probably have to order those from Amazon or something since I think they're all out of print! (I know those last two are, anyway.)
I've heard quite a few individual tracks by Voivod, including their cover of Pink Floyd's Astronomy Domine. Their whole musical vibe and stylistic evolution I find quite unique and fascinating - starting from Venom/Celtic Frost/Slayer-style ultraviolent thrash-metal, then gradually incorporating various different elements of prog rock (Pink Floyd, King Crimson and of course fellow Canadians Rush) and even incorporating a bit of a punk influence. (I saw a clip of them doing a pretty blistering rendition of Iggy & The Stooges' Search And Destroy on YouTube.)
I think their lead singer also collaborated with Dave Grohl on a track from the latter's metal side project Probot! I'm also intrigued by the fact that they're also Van Der Graaf Generator fans. (Their drummer is very much a fan of VDGG drummer Guy Evans.) VDGG is definitely one of the strangest and darkest of British prog outfits, and I'm very interested in hearing anyone who's even slightly influenced by them. (Incidentally, the more famous members of the Van Der Graaf fan club include Pistols/PIL frontman John Lydon, Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson, Marc Almond, Red Hot Chili Peppers' guitarist John Frusciante, Julian Cope, the Fall's Mark E. Smith...and of course the guys in Voivod! Cuts a pretty wide swath, doesn't it?)
