Any "virgin" Star Trek Fans

I hope that doesn't sound as impertinant as I think.

I'm wondering if there's anyone on here for which Abrams' Trek is the first Trek they've seen? If so, what did you think? I'm guessing you liked the film if you joined this Star Trek based forum. What are your thoughts on the whole "trek phenomenon"? Does seeing and enjoying this film make you want to see the previous Treks?

Is there any answer apart from "probably thousands"!!

Hopefully in the spirit of your question as well as the jokey sense!

In the spirit of the question... hmm. Star Trek viriginity, huh? What qualifies as virginity? Would having previously watched one episode and one movie that I sat through but didn't follow/comprehend/absorb in the lease count as losing my Star Trek virginity, or is that like making it to second base with Star Trek? (... The sad thing is, this isn't the first time I've used a romance/sex metaphor to describe my involvement in a fandom.)

After previously being exposed to the fandom when I just wasn't mature/nerdy/awesome enough to appreciate it, watching the movie on Saturday was my first really positive experience with Star Trek. Since then, I decided to watch the shows, have watched three TOS episodes, and am going to watch a fourth as soon as I finish here.

Yes, definitely want to see the previous Treks. I've known of and admired the "Trek phenomenon" for several years, because my mom is a casual Star Trek fan and exposed me to the non-socially-inept side of fandom, although her fandom involvement hasn't extended past watching TOS, some of TNG, and the movies. Frankly, knowing myself and my personal tastes, I've been wondering for several years why I wasn't into Star Trek.

So, call me a "virgin" fan who once made it to second base and has heard second-hand about what Star Trek's like.

... All right, even for me this metaphor is starting to get weird. Heh.

Dont worry, the metaphor works pretty well lol

I know there has to be hundreds of new fans out there, jsut going by the groups of people I went with. The first night I went with my girlfriend and roomate. MY girlfriend is a nerd, but never watched trek. My roomate is the typical 21 year old white american male college student who never watched trek. Trek must have struck a cord with my girlfriends inner nerd and now shes exploded into a trek fan, to the point where she now wants to watch (and has started) all the trek series and movies. My roomate greatly enjoyed it as well and requested that I provide him with the shows as well.

The second night I went with my gf yet again, my other two roomates and a friend of mine. One roomate was a nerd as well, but is part of the star wars camp and dislikes anything trek, one was a trekkie, and the final one just disliked trek in general. All of them enjoyed the movie, so its safe to say that the film has that special something that can lure in the new fans.

I think we could say you have successfully consummated your relationship - may it be a long and happy one. Do drop by the TOS forum to let people know what you think of the episodes - and welcome aboard.

Rats...I wish I'd found this thread about ten minutes ago. I just posted a question directly related to this in the TOS section!

I'm a Star Trek virgin. I'll say it proudly. My mother used to watch Next Gen all the time, but I can honestly only remember a handful of things about it, such as the fact that she thought Worf was dreamy and made me be a klingon for halloween when I was eight years old. I saw Voyage Home one Sunday afternoon on TV, and similarly caught the very end of Wrath of Khan with my mother going "You have to watch this! It's magic!"

But now I've seen the new Trek. And while I don't know if I've got the dedication required to really enter this fandom...I am a Joss Fangirl at heart so I know a little bit about fandom taking over your life...I'm interested. And I want to wet my feet a little. I know I can't be the only one, so I'm glad I came here. It's scary trying to enter a fandom all by yourself.

To continue the metaphor...

Remember, sometimes you may go through rocky patches and have differences of opinions (I'm thinking ENT). Stick by your new partner through these bad times. If you work things out, it will only make your relationship stronger.

Haha, when I read the title, I was thinking "why the hell does everyone think that someone who likes Star Trek = virgin?"

I watched the original series and saw the first 5 movies so I'm not a ....virgin.

I'm a complete Star Trek virgin - of course I knew about the series and movies, but never watched any of them. J.J.Abrams's film drew me into the fandom (obviously it was designed to appeal to new viewers - which it did).

If just watching this new movie makes one a Star Trek virgin then after 30 years I must have fucked a lot of bitches.
