Any train fans around?

I live 65 miles from the BART station, with no mass transit from my house to the station. I drive my car to the station and park, in a parking lot. BART permit parking is $3 for the day, Reserved Parking is $10.90 overnight. That is a lot less expensive than driving the additional 50 miles to San Francisco, crossing a toll bridge, then finding a place to park in the city, at $6 or more per half hour.

I'm taking a fairly long Amtrak journey in a couple of weeks. I haven't decided HOW. There's no Amtrak near me. The nearest stations are both several hours drive away. One gets me there faster but both trains are commuter trains on that option, so no roomette.

The other gives me the roomette option and involves less driving to a station, but is significantly longer, and introduces a tight schedule, and Amtrak isn't known for keeping schedules, I.e.. I could be stuck in Penn Station for a long long time.
