Any thoughts on the whole Sweet Baby controversy?

So a company that game publishers use to flesh out stories decided to out themselves and what they do. How did this blow up into some word filled controversy with one side of gaming screaming and bitching at the other side who have no complaints? There are tons of articles online but I still don't get how this is a controversy?

My (quickly formed*) take on it is that Sweet Baby Inc should have just left it alone. And I bet they wish they had now. Trying to get something taken off the internet is the very best way to make sure that more people see it. If a group of people want to boycott your product/a product you worked on, so be it. No matter how stupid the reason is.

*I spent whole minutes learning about it before I made a judgement and moved on!

I did look it up and what I found was that it's a company devs and publishers hire to flesh out stories in games and narratives. I didn't see anything bad in what they were doing or any real "agendas" being pushed, they are hired to do a job and that is what they do.

There's an entire industry of youtubers dedicated to talking about "woke" gaming. Per them everything Western is woke and all hail the Japanese and mega-boobies on scantily clad characters that otherwise look like children (and these same folks unironically look for groomers everywhere). Basically, they're pissed that it's no longer the 1980s in the West. They think a certain type of neanderthal male is the only one who has ever gamed (and as I type that I have fond memories of my pre-teen self beating the crap out of the boys at Super Street Fighter II - may that old Arcade machine RIP at the bottom of the ocean (it was taken out by a hurricane).

These guys are your pointy headed incels angry at a world they feel has somehow cheated them out of their birthright to you know - exploit and abuse anyone who isn't a straight white male conservative. All the info. I've gotten on Sweet Baby has been from accidental youtube vids by these assholes so I can't tell you anything accurate about them other than it has the cons pissed.

Had to look up the entire issue and it is like expected - companies hire their service to polish their producs according to DEI and neckbeards get up all in arms over it.

I can't decide if i should be amused or concerned that being inclusive and respecting others is just such a bad thing. At my former company DEI is huge and people love being recognized for their beliefs, traditions and heritage in equal ways. It does wonders for morale and the few that don't like it either leave the company ( no big loss) or keep their mouth shut and do the work as expected ( you can't get them all).

I don't know who is this "woke" Joanna Dark. But if that woman is the model of that ugly female character in some American game that I saw in Youtube, then well, yes. I also saw that many Asian Gamers agree with them. She's ugly. Well, maybe because there are a lot of Asian Gamers, and maybe also many Western Gamers who enjoy Japanese with mega boobie on sanctity. And Japan (and Korea) can provide what they want. So if Western Game maker can't make what they want, then let them be. but don't expect them to buy your game.

But it's okay, There's still Japan and Korea who can give them what they want. So just ignore them. Let Japan and Korea game Makers get their money instead. American game makers can still get money from people who have pass the 1980 era of Japanese and mega boobie in scantity. So everyone can be happy. Nobody needs to blame each others. Well, everyone have their own interest. So what if they like anime boobs and scantily clad game characters? I thought that the West value freedom. You can even walk naked on the street. So why anyone bother with people who have different taste than them?

I think Americans are really weird. You make something that simple to become very complicated things. When the solution basically simple. Just tolerate the others, and don't force your value to other people. Specially when you live in a country who say that they value Freedom more than anything.

It’s a lot like seeing the words freedom and liberty in loan ads. Those are quick indicators that you are about to see the rates so high that even loan sharks would be embarrassed.

What they’re doing is praising a very small section of Japanese IP to criticize anything they dislike. Their entire argument is a paranoid’s account. They believe the West is hopelessly woke and the East is a paragon of manly maleness. It’s a disingenuous account of publishers and media put out across the board. It portrays Japanese and Western Devs in a false light. The interest is in berating Western devs for not making what they want at all times not in praising what they like or celebrating this or that. It’s solely about whining that they aren’t being catered to 24/7 and going after anyone who veers from their preferred political stance.

Wow. Hypersexualized female body part. Where is the problem with that? I don't see any problem when females have their own preference about perfect, sexy, super caring Males like in Twilight Movies. We respect women when they have their own fantasy about "perfect" men in their imagination. Then why are you even have any problem with men sexual preference? So I'm curious, if any women will enjoy Twilight, if we changes the males protagonists with fat, ugly men as the main protagonist love interest. Will Twilight still capable to become popular?

Well, I doubt that any man will enjoy Twilight like movies. Maybe there are, but only minority. But that's because Twilight was created for Females audiences. So It is okay for females to enjoy sexy, muscular but super caring men from a movie or a game that target women audience. So why there is a problem when males audience want a woman that fit into their sexual preference; when they want to play a game that aim for male audience?

I thought America is a country of freedom. So why do you have any problem with men sexual preference, when basically Sweet Baby Inc can advice those movies and Games developers to create games and movies for women. With hypersexualized men that can excite any women alive and push them to spend their money for those movies and games. Of course, men will avoid those movies and games. But who care.
