This person speaks the truth.

"Spock's Brain" and "The Way to Eden" at least have that Ed Wood/kitsch feeling to them. Plus go-go boots. They're fun, in a "boy, this is awful" way.

Not even having a funky soul sister like Charlene Masters could save "The Alternative Factor" from sucking wind. The writing is pointless, the acting is shrill and hollow, and the episode overall is too boring to watch.

There's an extended scene with Kirk and Spock in the briefing room where the characters themselves seem to know. Kirk bleats, Spock nods. Repeat for an act.

Alternative Factor is bad...but it's just guilty of being boring. Although that shot of Lazarus falling from the top of Vasquez Rocks is always worth a laugh! Oh and when he screams "KILL! KILL! KILL!!!" or whatever...that always makes me laugh.

It's not offensively embarrassing like Eden though.

This episode has definitely not withstood the test of time as well as some of the others. Definitely a sign of the times.

If I had to pick a worst episode then this is it. I've been saying this since the first time I saw it...it's always disagreed with me -- granted I didn't really understand it when I was younger, but it's not helping the episode any that I do understand it now....and I still have nightmares about that wretched fake beard falling off him and onto me...Oh the horror!

Exactly right. That's the one episode that is so bad it makes me angry.


In fact, the only time my wife ever actually said "Would you shut up about Star Trek?" was when Brian Cox showed up as Melvin Belli in Zodiac.
