Any one heard from Masao Okazaki?

Oh, that site. It's nice art, but I never could see most of it as Star Trek.

He he. That's funny, since his art was used in Star Trek:

Stay safe, Masao.

One fairly generic station being used in the remastered TOS is a far cry from what most of his art looks like in regards to star ships presented in Star Trek.

It's a far cry more than almost any other fan has done. His art must have been considered pretty suitable for Star Trek to not only be included in one of the remastered episodes, but to be the featured station AND ship in a series of books. Whatever criticisms can be fairly leveled at his art, being un-Trek isn't one of them. At least as measured by any yardstick that counts.

Before Enterprise rolled around I thought those designs were perfect, of course, after Ent they do seem a little bit "backwards", but I could still seem them in use in Trek, especially as part of a civilian navy that's been retrofitted for Starfleet use in the case of a Romulan war...

Jeez, first the darn earthquake, then you! I think I'm going to jump off a tall building.:)

Don't do that! While I might share some of Sojourner's feeling about your extrapolations, that's just an opinion. The fact is that you've done a tremendous amount of brilliant work that's an asset to fandom. As far as I'm concerned, you're the de-facto standard on pre-TOS ship design until I get off my lazy posterior and challenge your vision with my own.

Keep up the good work!

i'll weigh in for the starfleet museum. its a more coherent and sensible vision of starfleet's past than Enterprise was.

The crap from Ent is backwards as it basically seeks to draw a direct line from itself to TNG and back again. You can't toss a rock in there and without hitting something that screams 24th Century Trek. Masao's work is a far better attempt to create a back story for Trek and TOS specifically. Akiraprise. Four pips on the collar. The shoulder piping. The appearance of the Ferengi. The appearance of the Borg. Klingon Warbirds. Frankenstein Romulansin the same uniforms. The finale. It goes on and on from there. Masao and others have created a far more credible and far reaching history. It's just better. Plain and simple.

In your opinion. :rommie:

Thanks for the compliments and good wishes, everyone.

I think we can close this thread, now that I've shown myself to be alive and (reasonably) well.

Can you prove that you're alive? For that matter, would you mind submitting the results of your last Turing test for scrutiny?

True, I might have been replaced by a sentience-mimicking computer program. Or the member known as "Masao" might have never been a human being in the first place. As far as I know, none of you have ever met me in the "flesh."

Of course, as long as we're so casually tossing around accusations of non-humanity, what about all of you, eh? Maybe the robot uprising has already occurred!!! Perhaps we have all been replaced by ambulatory mechanical simulacra without our noticing!!!

Glad to hear that Masao is OK. Best wishes to him.

Fan-generated art is always going to be an acquired taste. I enjoy certain aspects of the Starfleet Museum and can't help but to wonder if that art could be somehow useful in reconciling ENT and TOS. Both had their flaws and inconsistencies.

I admire Masao and friends for stepping up to bat and taking a good swing! :)
