Any of you New Yorkers been to the new train hall?

The one that opened right across the street from MSG & Penn?

AFAIK, the new station will be used mainly by Amtrak and LIRR. Sure beats the way LIRR riders used to wait for their trains...jammed into Penn's basement, crowded around a small area, then when their train is called they run like it's the last helicopter out of Saigon.

Anyway, I'm just curious if any of our NYC members have been to the station yet, and if so, what did they think of it. Looks magnificent!

I haven’t been yet - mostly because I don’t have a legitimate reason to visit mid-town anymore (since we work from home every day) and also because I’d prefer to avoid being inside an enclosed space with other people while the pandemic rages. But it looks stunning and I cannot wait for the day that we feel safe traveling via train again and can use the new terminal. Between the new train station and the new LGA, the city will finally have modern and acceptable transportation hubs again!

Moynihan Train Hall looks totally awesome. It's just a pity that it took so long to realize that dream.

Unfortunately, NJ Transit (which I use regularly, as I have relatives who live in Morris Plains, and it's also how I get to and from Newark airport) will apparently not use the new building. :( But a friend of mine lives on Long Island and so I will eagerly await the chance to use Moynihan Hall to jump on LIRR!

Plus, I am a huge geek when it comes to mass transit. So I'd probably visit the new building even if I wouldn't normally use it. I take pictures, collect tickets, ride trains to random destinations (that's literally what I did the first time I learned how to ride the subway in New York - I spent the whole rest of the day just riding the trains to places at random), you name it. Kind of pathetic, isn't it?

That said, I'm also glad that NYC is kicking it into high gear with OMNY (the new fare payment system for the subway). The MetroCard, while a huge improvement over tokens, is kind of a pain in the ass...

I'll probably never go back there again. I don't use LIRR or Amtrak.... Unless like, a Jack In the Box or non-local chains set up shop. But I doubt it.

^ Me too. It's my favorite city of all time to vacation in.

It's also why I like the Yankees AND the Mets. I'd already been going to NYC for years before I ever got into baseball. I chose the city first...then the teams. :techman:

I also can't wait till the Second Avenue Subway is finally a done deal. It'll take some of the pressure off the 4 train (which is how you get to Yankee Stadium). As it is now, riding that train during rush hour is like going to war, it's so damn crowded. I've had days where I was exhausted to the bone just for riding that train!

And I'm not being melodramatic on that. The 4 really is that bad. Some days it's so crowded you can hardly breathe!
