I'd be more interested in seeing a movie set in the far future about a Slayer,

Not a movie, but Fray is a tale of a 23rd century Slayer written by Joss Whedon himself...

I thought it was pretty good. If you like it the story is continued in Buffy Season 8.

Every day, with each remake that slips through the cracks, it becomes clearer and clearer that any aspiring screenwriter out there whose head is full of new and exciting ideas had best not quit their day jobs, because Hollywood just can't be bothered with originality anymore.

The one consolation I have is that the original movie was shit to begin with. Even with that positive, there is this to consider: the TV series has already filled the "remake" bill with astounding effectiveness.
