Any news on the Buffy reboot?

I've just discovered Buffy the vampire slayer is being rebooted.

http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2009/05/a-joss-less-buf.html
an explosive Q&A conducted over e-mail, Whedon weighed in for the first time about the sure-to-be-hellacious Buffy reboot. What follows is a complete transcript of that interview...
What do you think about this Buffy movie they're making without you?
JOSS WHEDON: I hope it's cool

Can anyone tell me what stage this reboot is at? Do we know any cast names or which characters are being used? Do we know anything other than Joss Whedon isn't being involved?
Sorry, if this has all been discussed before (I'm sure it has back in May), but I did check the first 10 pages and couldn't see anything.

Is it really a reboot? More like two different stories diverging off of the same original in this case.

And yeah, it'll be shitty. Unless they get Luke Perry back.

There is a old thread here http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=94268&highlight=Buffy
Don't know if there is any news in it that you do not all ready know.
Thanks! You wre right that there wasn't anything I didn't know already. However it was worth reading for this;

Giles: "Your predecessor was the Slayer for 12 minutes. She prevented the apocalypse. I dare you to do better. Enlist at the Watchers Academy"
Buffy: "Seriously, with the talking to me? Not exactly getting the why."
:guffaw:

I don't think a reboot is a bad idea, but Buffy/Angel has only been off the air for 5 years. It's still fresh in people's minds. Give it at least another decade before bringing it back.

I'd say its the concept that annoys me just as much as the goons behind it. As it shows the super inherent lack of ideas in Hollywoodland.
Remakes, remakes, remakes, reboots, reboots, reboots.

They can't think of anything new at all. Just like 2 seconds after BSG ended there was news it would be remade again as a new movie

Ha! I forgot about that.

I don't think it's that they *can't* think of anything new. They simply don't *want* to think of anything new. Recycling existing properties is safer. Heck, just look at all the $ Transformers 2 is making. If you can make that much $ off of recycled ideas, then what's the point in coming up with something new?

Considering TNT still plays reruns of Angel 5 days a week, I definitely think it's too soon to be rebooting the whole franchise.

Plus, I just watched all of Buffy and Angel for the first time last year! I'm not ready for a reboot!

I'd be more interested in seeing a movie set in the far future about a Slayer, or maybe even a Slayer movie set in the ancient past. But not Buffy. I like my Buffy the way she is.
