Any ideas on how to get rid of a lot of Trek books?

sorry, but can't solders buy books themselves!

Kind of hard to pop down to the bookstore when you're knee deep in the shit somewhere in the middle of Afghanistan, you know?

Actually I wouldn't know as I've never been out there nor have the inclination to do so. But the question stands, can't soldiers buy books them selves as the entire American army is not deployed in that rather lovely part of the world!

So again, I suggest, instead of potentially wasting your book donations, give it to charity where someone will buy the novel and then said money can go to a good cause - I myself got rid of a load of books a few months ago and gave them to Oxfam.

^ The idea wasn't to send the books to troops living at a base down the block, but instead those deployed to forward areas or other isolated locations around the world and who don't have the opportunity to buy them from a nearby bookstore. The aforementioned Books for Soldiers and Operation Paperback are groups who act as intermediaries for that process, though their primary focus is American troops. I'm sure there's an equivalent in the UK, or wherever the OP hails from.

There's nothing wrong with any of the other options, either.

We can all submit you are emails and you can send us the list and if we are interested, we can buy them from you if the price is right.

I'd also be interested in knowing what books you have available. In particular I would be interested in a lot of the early New Frontier and possibly Stargazer books.

You could publish your list, and then sell them to people on here - and then donate the money to a charity of your choice.

Breaks the forum rules, as I found out recently.

@OP: If you're on a forum that has a marketplace section and fairly literate readers, you could post a sale thread there. I'd be happy to see one of those pop on SomethingAwful if you're there. :P

Annorax, do you have stairs in your house?;)

I need:

The worlds of DS9 (all of them)
Warpath
The Left Hand of Destiny (1 & 2)
Fearful Symmetry
A Stitch in Time

:) and I would be happy for awhile.

Every time I see the subject line for this thread, I think: "Napalm?"

*snicker* Perverse minds think alike. I've passed this topic multiple times and napalm-like scenarios have danced through my head like sugar plums!

Look in your Yellow Pages, under Used Book Stores. Most used bookstores will generally give you in-store credit (with which you can buy DVDs, CDs, what-have-you, if you are not interested in more books), if not actually outright offer you a little green.

There is a nationwide chain of used bookstores, called Half-Price Books, which will buy your stuff if it is in good condition. Look for one in your area.

And, of course, you can donate them to charity, to your own local library, to the aforementioned troops in the 'Stan downrange, or...leave them anonomously on the table in your work's break room or cafeteria, and hope you get some converts.

The OP is in the UK, so giving info relevant to the US won't necessarily apply. And Half Price Books isn't all that fantastic. I've been in a couple times, and their prices aren't much better than buying at Borders with a coupon.

Except that you will find a lot of books, comics, software and music you won't ever find in a Borders or B&N because they are long out of print. Not to mention that everything is at least 50% off and often more than that.

Howdy, Omaha Star! Whoop, did not know the original poster wasn't in the States. But hope this information comes in handy to those readers who are.

I know, the 1/2PB on Center is a tad pricy, much more so than the four or five in KC, where I drop a few hundred once or twice a year. If you are looking for decent bargains, try Kanesville Collectibles in Council Bluffs...cover price $3 or less is $1, over $3 is sliding up to about $2 maximum. Or Pageturners on Dodge.

Yes. Thanks to everyone for their advice. Thankfully I found a buyer to take the bulk of the collection.

Still have a few books, but they can go to charity.

Along with my recent Trek charity auctions, I am gradually clearing my house out!
