Any ideas on how to get rid of a lot of Trek books?

I have a lot of Trek novels that I no longer want. Ideally I want to sell them and recoup a little bit of cash, but I'm not sure what to do with them.

eBay is obviously one choice, but I'm not going to list and post each one!

Charity is another option I guess.

But does anyone know of any more appropriate avenues?

Thanks.

try craigs list. ebay sucks! the cheapskates there wont give you anything!

That looks a very strange site, what is it? It's like one of those domain holding companies!

Seeing on there someone is selling Voyager vids for £80.:guffaw:

Well, if you do eBay, you can always crosslink your auctions and offer discounted shipping if people buy multiple books from you. In any case, I would try to cluster them into batches of some sort.

I usually just donate them to my local library. Its not really worth it for me to try and sell them for 2-3 bucks when I only paid 7-8.

I would try grouping them on ebay...when I am looking for any media tie-in series I'm personally looking for multiples...I only look at specific books if I am missing a single title. And...I've noticed when I've looked...the ones that are grouped more often than not have bids attached than the singles.

Have you looked for any used bookstores in your area? You won't get a lot of money, but it's better than nothing, and you don't have to deal with the hassle of Ebay or other such sites.

My local library has a second-hand bookstore you can donate your old books to, so I suppose that also gets filed under the "charity" option...?

You could post a list here and try to sell them to other board members. I have plenty of holes in my collection that I'd be happy to have filled.

^ Against board regulations.

I would selling them in lots on eBay. I've seen some of the older books go for fairly descent amounts when bundled together. I offloaded my entire collection of Star Trek: The Magazine from the early 2000s on there for over $200.

What's the point of being an admin if you can't flout board regulations? ;)

The only problem with selling in lots is what if someone's just missing one Double Helix book, and you're selling all six together? That's why I wish Glenn Hauman's auction site had taken off. Or that his idea had been stolen by eBay.

Every time I see the subject line for this thread, I think: "Napalm?"

Used bookstore. They'll give you store credit of a couple bucks for each one. Some may even give you cash.

Offer them as a lot on Freecycle? (Someone relieved me of a large pile of Stephen King novels that way.) Or swap them for books you want on BookMooch? (Although that would still mean typing them up and posting them off.) Donate them to a local school?

Donate them to a library, veteran's hospital or one of the groups that are sending books overseas for the troops.

sorry, but can't solders buy books themselves!

How about giving them to a charity shop, yes you won't get any money back for giving them away, but if it's a charity for Cancer Research or The Red Cross, you'll help them make money for their aims!
