Any Hellboy fans?

I was wondering if you could tell me how interconnected the Hellboy and B.P.R.D. comics are to each other. If I'm reading one, do I need to read the other?

I think you can read Hellboy without reading BPRD, but you should be at least passingly familiar with Hellboy to read BPRD or the other spin-offs (Witchfinder, Lobster Johnson). BPRD has picked up on things from Hellboy, but I don't think the opposite is really true.

I've not read the comics but, for what it's worth, really enjoyed the two movies. A great mix of the supernatural and the absurd.

I've seen both the live-action films as well as the animated features.

I've also read several one-shot stories from the Hellboy universe, but not the entire comic series, spin-offs etc. I've wanted to go back and start from the beginning for a couple of years now. Maybe one day soon.

All good stuff.

I keep meanin' to read the comics, but I haven't gotten to 'em yet.

I've seen both live action movies, and the animated movies.

And I've met Doug Jones (Abe Sapien)! He was awesome.

I actually JUST finished reading all the Hellboy comics last night. I had stopped reading them like three years ago.

I had to rush through them when I read that Hellboy had died in the last issue. I was very curious to see how it happens. For those who want to know, Hellboy is fighting Nimue (the Lady in the Lake) who has taken on the form of the world ending Dragon. He manages to kill the Dragon, but as Nimue's spirit is dragged down into Hell by the dead witches, she reaches through Hellboy's chest and takes out his heart, dragging it down into Hell with her. Hellboy's body turns to ash and collapses to the ground in a pile. Now, I'm positive this isn't the END of the story. I'm sure the next issue will be Hellboy in Hell. He still hasn't met his demon father after all!

I haven't read the BRPD comics yet but I'm going to now. I can tell you that in all the issues of Hellboy, there is only one very brief reference to the events of BRPD. Hellboy is watching a TV and sees them fighting a monster or something. That's it.
