Any good sci-fi movies?

Prometheus has put me in the mood I think. Any recent (i.e. last couple of years) sci-fi movies you guys can recommend?

More spaceship type sci-fi, but I'll happily take suggestions on others. :)

From 2011:

  • Another Earth
  • Attack the Block
  • Rise of the Planet of the Apes
  • Source Code
  • Super 8
From 2012:

  • John Carter (though it will start off pretty rough - it has some early "set-up" scenes that are just confusing)

I would like to do the opposite of recommending a movie.

I wanted a time travel movie I had never seen before.

IMDB spat out "A sound of thunder"

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0318081/

MILLIONAIRES TRAVEL THROUGH TIME KILLING EXTINCT PREDATORS UNTIL IT ALL GOES HORRIBLY WRONG.

Ladies and gentlemen, in this movie so many things went wrong on so many levels... FREQUENTLY.

Ben Kingsy in a movie based on a short story by Ray Bradbury?

In the last few years, the best (off the top of my head) are District 9, Moon, Inception, Source Code....um.....Monsters was quite good, too. Take Shelter is an awesome movie, and it's up to you if you want to think of it as SF. I do.

I just saw Attack the Block a couple weeks ago, and really enjoyed it. I thought John Carter was great. Another one I watched a while back on Netflix that I really enjoyed was the Spainish movie Los Cronocrimenes (english: Time Crimes), it's a really good, twisty, trippy time travel story. I'm hoping to watch it again soon. The guy who directed this just released a new romantic comedy/alien invasion movie, Extraterrestre (english: Extraterrestrial), but I haven't gotten a chance to see it yet.

I saw Pandorum not too long ago as well and thought it was a good movie. Definitely a psychological thriller that is meant to creep you out just a little bit.

Not necessarily a sci-fi film, but I watched Limitless not too long ago, about a man who takes a drug that accesses all of the brain's potential, making him super-smart. It was quite intriguing.

Thanks for the responses! Forgot about this thread on Saturday, and watched the second Sherlock movie. Not great.

But to address the ones above... Moon saw and really enjoyed. Same with Inception. Source Code really enjoyed (thought it would be bad from its title!) Super 8 was shite! Limitless could have been good, but it seemed to have no drama to it.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes forgot about - must check that out. Pandorum I'll check out (Cam Gigadent cements that for me!) Cargo sounds interesting. Lockdown I really want to see! Attack the Block not sure... will see about that one. Another Earth definitely seems interesting.

Plenty for me to think about there - thanks!

Attack the Block?

All these English Kids who think they're TuPac Shukur, it's hilarious listening to them talk, it's like an old episode of the Fresh Prince, fight space werewolves with glowing teeth in semi darkness.

Here's the good thing.

No cheese.

Good budget.

Good sfx.

Attack the Block is practically Aliens of this generation.

Well armed human beings (They're mostly meth dealers. Of course they're well armed.) on a bughunt.
