Any Eighth Doctor fans here?

I might just have to give in and get the Eleven Doctors set, for his action figure. By himself, he's going for silly money over eBay and elsewhere. Or maybe I should wait, in case he's released separately come Christmas or early Next Year.

The 1996 movie was shite. Frankly, it was probably doomed the moment someone had the bright idea: Eric Roberts as the Master.

However, I've enjoyed several of the Big Finish audios I've listened to with McGann. In particular, the early stuff in the divergent universe is very interesting. It puts a new sense of peril into the stories since the Doctor is separated from the TARDIS and is encountering nothing but completely new alien species that he knows nothing about.

"Scherzo" is especially interesting as a purely audio story, exploiting the benefits of that format.

"The Creed of the Kromon" has some suitably disturbing things going on with Charley turning into some sort of bug breeder.

"The Natural History of Fear" is just too weird to be described and is another one of those stories that works so well in the audio format, especially since some of the major plot twists at the end would be totally spoiled if you could actually see what the characters looked like. McGann really owns the character of the Doctor here, exploring what the Doctor would be like if he forgot who he was but still posessed all of his fearsome will & intellect. You finally get to see the Doctor as a villain, and he's far scarier than any Dalek.

Some of the earlier stories of his were less impressive. The Orson Welles story was an interesting concept-- Aliens happen to invade Earth at the exact same time as Welles is broadcasting his hoax "War of the Worlds" broadcast. However, the execution becomes too convoluted and many of the New York accents don't hold up to scrutiny.

I also wasn't a big fan of the story where the Daleks tried to kill Shakespeare. It's a funny idea, imagining a world without Shakespeare. So many iconic quotes & popular idioms gone. However, the human villains aren't very impressive and I've never liked the Daleks (or the Cybermen for that matter) in the audio format. They're too grating & monotone. And in the audio format, that's all you get!
