Any Books You Like...

For non sci-fi I'd love a faithful rendition of The Count of Monte Cristo. Is there a good French production, since I've yet to see one in English?

You didn't like the 2002 adaptation starring Jim Caviezel, Guy Pierce, and Richard Harris?

I wasn't offended by it, but the novel's length and complexity means that a lot got excised for the sake the film's run time. I'd much prefer something that better brings out the breadth of action and complexity of human drama that is in the book.

I think The Odyssey would lend itself well to a tv series.

I dunno... all the supporting characters keep getting killed off, with Odysseus as the only "regular" (aside from the gods and the family and suitors back home). Although I guess you could rewrite it so that more of the crew survives. But then, how do you handle the 7-year span where it's just Odysseus and Calypso living alone together on an island?

I would so love to see them film Philip Nutman's Wet Work.

It's a zombie novel, but with a twist: there are different 'stages' of dead, if that makes any sense. Some of them are your standard slow-moving Romero type zombies, some are the fast DOTD2004-type, and some are intelligent - meaning they can think and talk and retain their full personalities, and can do things like put on new clothes, drive cars, organize ambushes using guns, etc. These 'smart zombies' eventually take over society and establish a new government - the 'United States of Hell'.

Also Greg Bear's Blood Music.

I remember liking the old tv version with Richard Chamberlain and Tony Curtis, although I haven't seen it since the seventies . . . .

Also, just for shits and giggles: Kenji Siratori's Blood Electric.

Since the entire novel is written in a mutant hodgepodge of broken English and random punctuation marks, it would be absolutely hilarious to see what a filmed version would be like.

Seriously. The entire novel looks like this:

Ecstasy//the beast of the soul/gram that liquefied blood::the internal organ of a dog hyper-links::the psychosexual drone is exposed to the insanity of a chromosome//the hologram hormones of the cold-blooded disease animals that were encircled and slaughtered in the Cadaver City//The defleshed skeletal streaming=murder memory that the reproduction quantifies::evolved to the self ruin=serum of the drug embryo::<<sleep>>;;<< . . .

And you think that would make a great TV series? Maybe a movie...don't know about a series. Maybe HBO. ;)

they made into a movie the 13th warrior with anontio benderas. I still think it would be awesome to see it as a tv show.

I wasn't aware of the movie already made. :( I need to see more movies. :)

But is there anything that you have read and liked that hasn't been made into a movie or TV series already? You read alot of books so you should have plenty of great ideas. :techman:

^ I think that CGI has finally advanced to the point where a filmed adaptation of Blood Music would finally be possible to make. But would viewers understand it?

And while I enjoyed the movie and watch it on occasion, there was one big change between the book and the movie.

They dropped the whole Neanderthal theme and went with plain old humans as cannibals. And yes, I realize the book was rather vague on the whole Neanderthal thing, but that's how I read it anyway.

I agree loved the movie but like with a lot of movies the book is usually way better.

read interview with a vampire for the first time this month love the book. Had to move the movie to my c list instead of a.

That is nice and all timothy but...

That Could Be Turned Into A TV Series?

Obviously things that have been made into shows or movies already don't count...looking for something fresh here. :bolian:

I just don't want this to turn into books you recently read and all. :)

Well perhaps more of a mini-series then. The 7 year span is easy, you just have him say "and I spent seven years with her", as he's telling it to the Phaeacians.

'A Confederacy of Dunces' would be fantastic, if only to get 'The Crusade for Moorish Dignity' put on film.
