Any Baltimore Sports Fans here?

steve1961

Lieutenant
Im a big Orioles as well Ravens fan. Im an Orioles 13 game plan season ticket holder. And am in University of Maryland Terps Basketball fan.

Hi Steve.

Don't care for baseball, but I usually go to a couple of games a year just to hang out.

I do follow the Terps during the tournament, and I rioted after the championship. That was fun until the tear gas came... :techman:

On the other hand, RAVENS!!!!

Dont Dis the O's! Even youre from Baltimore. Theyre gonna get real good again someday. Theyre very young just like the Devil Rays were you see how good they are now. O's have young talent. When they mature then youll gonna see them win again. Even former O's Millar,And Huff have admitted these are the best young talent guys they ever saw. Thats why im a Box Seat 13 game plan holder. Someday they gonna get good and i have great seat nobody can get at the box office.

I don't exactly have faith in the Orioles management, though. Just because the Rays got good doesn't mean other teams that are bad are going to be good soon (look at the Pirates).

I'm not a Baltimore fan, but I don't hate them either. If it doesn't somehow impact that Eagles negatively, I'll root for the Ravens. I visited Camden Yards, but I rooted for the other team because I knew they were going to win decisively. Might have been the most boring baseball game I've ever seen (barely watched the field throughout).

I am not a Baltimore fan but I do root for Joe Flacco because we attended the same middle school/high school.. I was a grade ahead of him.

Really? He attended the same college as me ;)

Well, he was at a party I was at, so that's at least somewhat special.

Heh the thing is he wasn't all that special as an 8th grader.. I knew him only from 7th to 9th grade. I moved out of state after 99 so I missed the whole Joe Flacco becoming a hometown phenom thing. After talking to old classmates recently apparently our HS football team went from the annual 0-11s to a respectable 8-3s when he played QB for us.

The thing is, it was only his last year at UD where he made a name for himself (well, he only played there two years, transferring from being a backup at Pitt). When the season started, I was told the only name I needed to know was Omar Cuff (the running back). Throughout the year, I noticed that he was a very talented QB and started pointing to him as the best player on the team. Of course, once he got drafted by the Ravens, everybody started talking about how much they loved Flacco and forgetting Omar Cuff, so I immediately went back to talking about how great Omar Cuff was (tied the record for I-AA TDs in a single season, 5 TDs in a single game, etc).

I think part of what made Flacco such a good player was hard work. At that party I saw him at, he didn't really seem to be part of everyone else. My friend said that football seemed to be his life. Since he had a shot at the NFL at that point, it made sense. When he was drafted by the Ravens, it was kind of the same way. Part of the reason he was able to have a solid rookie season is he put a lot of hard work into it (well, and the freak injuries that gave him the opportunity in the first place). When he started, several Ravens players were on record about how they didn't want him as QB, but they all seemed to support him by the end.

BTW, didn't mean to turn this thread into a Flacco lovefest. ;)

I sort of liked the Orioles when I was younger because of Ripken and Mussina, but I learned to hate the owner and I'm glad he's in a division where he'll never compete. :p

From what I've heard, he's the biggest asshole in the world. He also doesn't seem to be particularly proud to be in Baltimore. I might have heard this from a guy from Baltimore ;)

Well, to be fair, Angelos does a lot for the city of Baltimore itself, he just doesn't seem interested in putting the money into the team that he needs to to field a winning squad in the most competitive division in the league.

Meanwhile, GO RAVENS! Despite Flacco having perhaps his worst game in the Pros, we're in the playoffs. Now, we just have to break some part of Tom Brady's body... :vulcan:

^I think puberty finally hit around 2006, actually.

I just found out that Wes Welker is out and Tommy boy is most likely playing with broken ribs.
