Holy cow.........this is so sad, I don't even know how to process it.

From ABC news:
Anton Yelchin, a charismatic and rising actor best known for playing Chekov in the new "Star Trek" films, has died at the age of 27. He was killed in a fatal traffic collision early Sunday morning, his publicist, Jennifer Allen confirmed.

Yelchin started small with roles in indie films and various television shows, before breaking out in films like the crime thriller "Alpha Dog" and the teenage comedy "Charlie Bartlett." His biggest role to date has been in the rebooted "Star Trek" films — the third of which, "Star Trek Beyond" comes out in July.

Yelchin, an only child, was born in Russia. His parents were professional figure skaters who moved the family to the United States when Yelchin was a baby. Yelchin's family requests privacy at this time.

TMZ reports it was a freak, single vehicle accident.
Actor Anton Yelchin, known for his roles in "Star Trek" and "Alpha Dog," was killed early Sunday morning after getting pinned by his own car ... TMZ has learned.

Yelchin's friends became alarmed because he was supposed to meet them hours earlier for a rehearsal. They went to his San Fernando Valley home at around 1 AM and found him pinned between his car and a brick mailbox, which was attached to a security gate.

Law enforcement tells us the engine was running when his body was discovered, and the car was in neutral. The driveway was on a fairly steep incline. It's unclear why he got out of the car.

Cops do not suspect foul play.

Yelchin was 27.

RIP

I still can't get my head around this tragedy. RIP
Yeah:( however sad i was at the death of Rickman et all there is an appreciation that older people are more likely to die, to go at 27 through an accident just feels shittier

I know, and 69 is still way too young to die, but there is a natural order to things and deaths like that, whilst terrible, conform to that order. Even 27 year olds with a history of drug/alcohol abuse who die there is a horrible "well I guess I'm not surprised" response but this is so shittily random. Sadly non famous people die in accidents every day we just don't hear about them so much.

Always drive as if you have a leaky transmission and no brakes. Park in front of obstructions that keep your car from moving.

A friend of my Dad got his leg broken when he jumped out to get his mail. It doesn't take much to get hurt.

People cut a small sapling and leave the stump--I see an impalement hazard to a small child. I have a dismal take on life--but I can easily see the other shoe dropping.
