MSNBC:
Anthony Edwards will reprise the role of Greene, who died of a brain tumor at the end of the 2002 season, in flashback scenes in the Nov. 13 episode, NBC announced Thursday.

Dr. Greene will be shown with other characters from the show’s past and during an encounter with series newcomer Dr. Cate Banfield (Angela Bassett), an attending physician at County General, the network said. The names of the other returning “ER” alumni weren’t released.

As far as I'm concerned this show has been dead for years.

It's been dead since Greene comitted murder and even them it was waning in my mind. It may have "really" died when Greene gor the first tumor.

You'd think by then TV writers would know what a jokey cliche "brain tumors" are.

Geez, at least ABC managed to wait until the week before to ruin the surprise appearance of Jimmy Smits (as his character's ghost) during the final season of NYPD Blue.

On the final episode of ER, there will be a party at the hospital featuring many of their friends who had left to pursue other things. Then a zombie outbreak will bring back all the dead friends who want to bring the entire hospital down into the world of the undead.

But not to worry. George Clooney shows up to save the day.

"Hello, Zombie Mark. I'm Batman."

Not when they're handled with such painful realism. The Greene final arc was an amazing half-season. No last minute Hail Marys, NONE of the cliches you're inferring. It was done incredibly well and the emotional impact came out of the story and acting, not some kind of uber-contrived cliche-ridden script writing.

^All joking aside, I have to agree. The episode where he finally dies (with Carter, I think, reading the letter) is wonderful.

I would love to see Romano again he was great fun to watch.

Only if they do this scene:

Romano has air ambulance duty, and tells one of the junior docs to come along. The young doctor says "I'm not going up in that thing" and Romano replies, "don't be an idiot, helicopters are perfectly safe."

Absolutely agreed. That last episode with Greene was beautifully done.

lol can't go wrong with a zombie attack in a hospital. Also Selma hayek will play a nurse turned vampire who dances around a stripper pole with Harvey Keitel and his daughter trapped in the middle of things

Doctor Greene's final episode is one of my top five favorite ER episodes.

Though the episode with Carter reading the letter was not in the same episode. One of my favorite scenes though was the 'passing of the torch' scene where the letter falls off the board.

I was thinking this earlier today but given this is the last season, they should try and get George Cloony to come back. I would even watch that episode since I think the last time I saw the show, he was one of the stars.

^ Clooney was asked to return for the series finale. He expressly told them no.

(unless it ends up being like the last time he said no and appeared in the episode despite his claims he wasn't in it - the one where Hathaway left)

If they couldn't get Clooney to come back for the death of Mark Greene, why would he return now after all these years and the show's in the tank? Who's even left that his character Doug Ross knows? Abby and Kovach didn't show up until after he was gone.

Maybe they can bring in Val Kilmer or Michael Keaton to play Ross. :)
